Thunder Axe

Quickstart

1. Craft the Thunder Axe using the recipe below — the recipe is unlocked automatically when you join a world.
2. Find it in the Combat tab of your Creative inventory, or craft it in Survival.
3. Equip it and swing at any mob to deal 21 damage and instantly call down a lightning bolt on them.
4. Right-click while holding the axe to strike lightning at whatever you're looking at, up to 64 blocks away.

Overview

The Thunder Axe is a single, powerful netherite-tier weapon that combines heavy melee damage with on-demand lightning strikes. Every hit — whether a melee swing or a ranged right-click — summons a real lightning bolt accompanied by a thunder strike sound. There is no attack cooldown, so you can swing and fire as fast as you can click, limited only by the axe's durability.

How To Use

Melee Attack

Swing the axe at any entity as you would a normal weapon. On hit, the target takes 21 damage and a lightning bolt is immediately summoned directly on top of them. The lightning deals its own additional damage and can ignite flammable targets. There is no melee recharge delay, so attacks can be chained rapidly.

Ranged Lightning (Right-Click)

Right-clicking fires an invisible ray up to 64 blocks in the direction you are looking. When it hits a block surface, a lightning bolt strikes that exact location. This works on any block within range and is useful for hitting targets at a distance or triggering lightning-sensitive interactions (like converting mobs or charging creepers). There is no cooldown between right-click uses.

Axe Functionality

The Thunder Axe counts as a full axe for all standard axe uses — chopping wood, stripping logs, scraping oxidized copper, and removing wax from blocks all work normally.

Crafting And Obtaining

The recipe is automatically granted when you enter any world, so it will appear in your recipe book straight away.

Crafting requires gold ingots, netherite ingots, and a blaze rod — all materials found in or around the Nether.

Abilities And Mechanics

Lightning bolts summoned by the axe are real game lightning — they can start fires, convert mobs (pigs → piglins, creepers → charged creepers, villagers → witches), and trigger all normal lightning effects.

Progression And Strategy

• Resource investment: Netherite ingots make this a late-game craft. Secure a strong Nether presence before attempting to build one.
• Durability management: With 2,000 durability and a cost of 2 per lightning strike, you have up to 1,000 lightning uses before the axe breaks. Spamming right-click rapidly burns through durability, so use it deliberately against grouped enemies or key targets.
• Combo potential: Because there is no melee cooldown, every swing deals 21 damage plus the bonus lightning damage — rapidly clearing mobs or threatening players before they can react.
• Environmental lightning: Right-click lightning can reach targets around corners of blocks, hit mobs standing behind cover, or trigger events (charged creepers, mob conversions) that a direct melee approach could not.
• Repair: Being netherite-tier, the axe can be repaired with netherite ingots on an anvil to extend its life if you plan to use it long-term.
