The Butterfly is a glinting, iron-durability tool that records parts of your current timeline. A snapshot can preserve your position, dimension, health, hunger, experience, and tracked changes to the world.
Restoring a snapshot removes it from your snapshot list and advances the server-wide consequence counter. The more often you rewind, the more dramatically the world responds.

The Butterfly has a short cooldown after use. Combat snapshots have a longer cooldown, so repeated attacks do not create a snapshot for every hit.
A successful save or restore consumes one point of durability. The item can be used from the main hand or off-hand.
You can store up to 10 snapshots per player. Saving an eleventh snapshot discards the oldest one.
A snapshot can restore:
Restoring always uses the newest snapshot first. The restored snapshot is then removed, so it cannot be restored repeatedly.
If The Butterfly is somewhere in your inventory, the mod can save snapshots automatically:
Automatic snapshots are useful landmarks before dangerous activities. Keep the Butterfly with you if you want the death or exploration safeguards to work.
A successful sneak-use restore displays a consequence message and plays a special sound. There is also roughly a 15% chance of a paradox event, which may:
Timeline travel briefly freezes nearby entities while the transition occurs.
Neither The Butterfly nor the Universe Stabilizer has a crafting recipe.

After 50 successful restores, the first major consequence begins. Storms become a regular part of the timeline, with intensified weather effects and occasional lightning nearby.
After 100 successful restores, Stage 2 begins. Your stored snapshots are cleared when this stage starts, and The Butterfly gains a new purpose:
The Butterfly places safe landing pads for dimensional travel. Rimfacent has unusual terrain effects, drifting particles, and calmer behavior from some nearby creatures.
When you first enter Rimfacent, the advancement I Should Call Chloe is awarded. Using the Butterfly with a sneak-right-click awards Ready For The Mosh Pit, Shaka Brah.
Rimfacent villagers can also speak cryptic, timeline-related lines when you interact with them.
After 125 successful restores, all online players are sent to a strange dimension shown as ???. The worlds become permanently misaligned:
The Butterfly can still restore snapshots, but it cannot provide a normal escape from this stage.
After 175 successful restores, the universe is destroyed:
Treat Stage 4 as an irreversible end-state during normal play.
Use the Universe Stabilizer to reset the timeline to Stage 0. It is consumed when used and:
Use it before the timeline reaches the destructive stages if you want to stop the escalation.
The consequence counter is shared by the server, so restores made by any player advance the same timeline.
Operators can trigger progression stages directly with:

/LIS 2
/LIS 3
/LIS 4
These commands require operator-level permission. /LIS 4 immediately triggers the destructive universe-ending stage.
