- Hold the Ember Catalyst and use it to open the Sulfur Ember menu.
- Select Begin Trial. One catalyst is consumed, and a 90-second Ember Trial begins.
- Defeat all three waves of magma guardians before time runs out. Watch the action bar for the current wave, remaining foes, and time.
- Complete the trial to receive 1 Ember Core and 4 Sulfur Dust.
Overview
Sulfur Ember centers on short combat trials. Mine sulfur to create Ember Catalysts, then use a catalyst to summon three escalating waves of magma guardians. Completing the trial rewards Ember Cores and more sulfur dust, allowing you to continue the cycle.
What It Adds
| Content | Use |
|---|
| Sulfur Ore | Underground ore that produces Sulfur Dust when mined. |
| Sulfur Dust | Crafting ingredient for Ember Catalysts. |
| Ember Catalyst | Opens the trial menu and starts an Ember Trial. |
| Ember Core | Trial reward, crafting ingredient, and furnace fuel. |
| Magma guardians | Magma cubes summoned during Ember Trials. |
How To Use
Ember Catalyst
Use an Ember Catalyst to open the Sulfur Ember menu.
- With no active trial, choose Begin Trial to start.
- Choose How to Play to see the basic progression reminder.
- With an active trial, using a catalyst displays the current wave and remaining time.
- Select Abandon Trial from the active-trial menu to end the run without a reward. The arena is cleared, but the catalyst used to start the trial is not returned.
- You can only have one active trial at a time.
Ember Trial
Each trial lasts up to 90 seconds and contains three waves of magma guardians.
- The next wave begins when every guardian in the current wave is defeated.
- The action bar shows the current wave, remaining foes, and seconds left.
- Leaving the dimension where the trial began fails the trial.
- Running out of time fails the trial.
- A failed trial gives no reward, and the catalyst used to start it is lost.
Crafting And Obtaining
Sulfur Ore And Sulfur Dust
Search underground for Sulfur Ore and mine it with a pickaxe. Each block drops between 1 and 3 Sulfur Dust.
Ember Catalyst
Crafting an Ember Catalyst requires Sulfur Dust, iron nuggets, and coal.
Ember Catalyst From An Ember Core
Once you have an Ember Core, you can craft two additional Ember Catalysts with four Sulfur Dust.
Ember Core
Ember Cores are awarded for completing an Ember Trial. Each completed trial grants one core and increases your tracked core total by one.
An Ember Core can also be used as furnace fuel for 30 seconds.
Abilities And Mechanics
Wave Progression
Trials begin with the first magma guardian wave. After all enemies near the trial area are defeated, the next wave starts automatically. The trial ends successfully after the third wave is cleared.
Trial Status
While a trial is active, the action bar displays:
- Current wave out of three
- Number of remaining foes
- Remaining time in seconds
If you leave and return while your trial is still active, use an Ember Catalyst to check its status.
Rewards
A successful trial grants:
- 1 Ember Core
- 4 Sulfur Dust
- An increase of 1 to your Ember Core total
Progression And Strategy
- Mine several Sulfur Ore blocks before starting so you have enough dust for catalysts and future crafting.
- Prepare your combat equipment and clear space around the trial location before using a catalyst.
- Keep the magma guardians together when possible so you can defeat each wave quickly.
- Watch the foe count on the action bar instead of assuming a wave is finished.
- Save Ember Cores for more catalysts if you want to chain trials, or use them as furnace fuel when you need smelting time.
