Description:
Batter Up! transforms cake baking into a full survival pastime. Almost any item or block can be baked into a themed, seven-slice cake. Every cake is a placeable block with a realistic cut face that shrinks as you eat it, restores hunger and saturation, and may grant potion or status effects depending on its ingredient. The mod also adds specialised tools for working with cakes — the Cake Knife and Cake Tools — plus Display Stands for exhibition. Naturally generated structures (starter tents, bakeries, and cake shops) scatter cake-related items and blocks across the world, and the /cake_time command lets operators spawn collections of mod items.
| Item / Block | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Cake Knife | Slices cakes placed in the world or held in hand |
| Cake Tools | Decorate placed cakes |
| Display Stand | Pedestal that shows a cake with a six-slice display face |
Cakes are grouped below by theme. Every cake follows the same shaped crafting pattern: three Milk Buckets (top row) · Sugar – [Ingredient] – Sugar (middle row) · three Wheat (bottom row). The ingredient in the centre slot determines the cake type.

All sixteen stained-glass colours each have their own cake.
Log and plank cakes exist for every wood type: Oak, Acacia, Bamboo, Birch, Cherry, Crimson, Dark Oak, Jungle, Mangrove, Pale Oak, Spruce, and Warped. Plank-based cakes correctly show eaten-state visuals for all twelve wood types, shrinking properly as slices are taken.

Place a cake on any solid surface and right-click it to consume one slice. Each cake has seven slices; the block model updates after each bite to show the slice removed. When all seven slices are eaten, the block disappears. Cakes cannot be eaten from your hand — they must be placed first.
Hold a Cake Knife and right-click a placed cake to slice it cleanly, yielding individual cake-slice items you can carry in your inventory and eat later. The knife can also be used directly on some display setups.
Right-click a placed cake with Cake Tools to decorate it. Decorating changes the cake's appearance for display purposes.
Place a Display Stand and right-click it with a cake to mount the cake on top. The stand shows a six-slice face, making it ideal for bakeries, shops, or home decoration.
Cakes made from ingredients that have special properties — such as Pufferfish, Spider Eye, Poisonous Potato, Chorus Fruit, Enchanted Golden Apple, or Golden Carrot — pass those effects (hunger, poison, levitation, night vision, regeneration, etc.) to whoever eats a slice.
Combine a Book with a Cake in a crafting grid (shapeless) to receive the Batter Up! guide book, which documents cake recipes and mechanics in-game.

Every cake restores hunger and saturation proportional to the nutritional value of its theme ingredient. Hearty meat cakes (Steak, Porkchop, Mutton) restore more than vegetable cakes; frivolous cakes like Water Cake or Coal Ore Cake are mainly decorative.
Certain cakes apply effects to anyone who eats a slice:
| Cake | Effect |
|---|---|
| Enchanted Golden Apple Cake | Absorption, Regeneration, Resistance, Fire Resistance |
| Golden Apple Cake | Absorption, Regeneration |
| Golden Carrot Cake | Saturation boost |
| Pufferfish Cake | Nausea, Poison, Hunger |
| Spider Eye Cake | Poison |
| Fermented Spider Eye Cake | Blindness |
| Poisonous Potato Cake | Poison chance |
| Chorus Cake | Teleportation (Chorus Fruit effect) |
| Zombie Cake | Hunger, potential negative effects |
| Honey Cake | Removes poison |
Every cake block has seven distinct model states. As you eat slices the block visually shrinks from a full cake down to a single remaining slice, then disappears entirely. Plank-based cakes update these eaten-state visuals correctly for all twelve wood types.
You can use a Cake Cake (a cake made from vanilla cake) as the centre ingredient to craft another Cake Cake — an infinite recursive loop for the truly dedicated confectioner.
The Grand Confectioner advancement tracks all 221 cake varieties. Completing it requires crafting or placing every unique cake. Use naturally generated structures as a head start: starter tents, bakeries, and cake shops all contain cake samples and ingredients you would otherwise need to farm.
A starter tent is always generated near world spawn. Visit it early to collect free cake items and get a preview of what the mod offers before committing materials to crafting.
Many cakes share base ingredients (Milk Buckets, Sugar, Wheat). Stockpile those first, then swap in the special ingredient per cake variety. Cakes that use rare late-game items (Netherite, Enchanted Golden Apple, Diamond Ore) are late-game targets; build towards them as you progress through vanilla content.
Build a bakery or museum using Display Stands to exhibit each completed cake variety. Stands display a clean six-slice face, making collections visually striking and easy to track at a glance.
Server operators and creative players can use /cake_time to spawn collections of the mod's items instantly, useful for testing effects or stocking a bakery without grinding all 221 recipes.
