Stormtide Trident

Quickstart

1. Craft or obtain a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template, a Trident, and a Conduit.
2. Use a Smithing Table to combine them into the Stormtide Trident:

1. Hold the trident and hold down Use Item (right-click) to charge it — you'll hear a crackling charge-up sound and see rain and spark particles building around you.
2. Release the button to launch yourself forward like a riptide throw — no water or rain required.
3. While flying, ram into any living entity to strike it with lightning and trigger a stormy impact burst.

Overview

The Stormtide Trident is a melee weapon that behaves like a permanently "riptide-enchanted" trident. Instead of needing to be in water or rain to launch, it lets you charge up and fire yourself through the air at will, crackling with electrical and stormy particle effects the whole time you carry it. Colliding with a target while airborne calls down a lightning strike on them.

What It Adds

• Stormtide Trident — a single custom weapon item found in the Combat creative tab.
• Custom sound effects for charging, launching, arcing, impact, and ambient storm noise.
• Persistent stormy particle effects (rain, splashes, electric sparks, glowing motes) that swirl around any player holding the trident in either hand.

Crafting And Obtaining

The Stormtide Trident is made at a Smithing Table using the same style of upgrade as netherite gear:

It can also be picked directly from the Combat tab in Creative inventory.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Charge and Launch: Hold right-click to begin charging. The longer you hold (up to several seconds), the more committed the charge — releasing after a very short tap does nothing, but releasing after a brief charge launches you forward and slightly upward in the direction you're looking, no water or rain needed.
• Storm Trail: While flying from a launch, the trident leaves a trail of stormy particles and periodic thunder-like sound cues for a short burst of time after release.
• Lightning Strike on Impact: If you crash into a living entity while riding out a launch, a lightning bolt strikes near them along with an impact sound and particle burst, and your flight ends immediately.
• Ambient Storm Aura: Simply holding the trident (main hand or off-hand) periodically surrounds you with rain, splash, spark, and glow particles, plus occasional low ambient thunder sounds — a constant visual reminder of the weapon's stormy nature.
• Durability and Enchanting: The trident has 250 durability and can accept enchantments from the trident, durability, and vanishing enchantment categories, so items like Loyalty, Channeling, Impaling, Unbreaking, and Mending all apply normally.

Progression And Strategy

Use the Stormtide Trident as a mobility and strike tool: charge a launch to close distance quickly or escape danger, then aim your flight path directly at an enemy to land a lightning-charged hit. Because charging takes a moment and briefly locks you into the use animation, time your launches for openings rather than mid-combat scrambles. Combine with enchantments like Loyalty (for a thrown-and-return playstyle) or Channeling (for extra lightning theming during storms) to round out its stormy toolkit.
