Rogue Ascension Draft

Quickstart

1. Play normally and gain XP levels in Minecraft as you normally would.
2. Every time your level reaches a multiple of 5 (5, 10, 15, …), a draft screen automatically opens.
3. You are presented with 3 upgrade cards — read each card's name, tier, description, and effect, then click Choose on the one you want.
4. Your chosen upgrade is applied immediately and persists through sessions.
5. Press apostrophe (') at any time to open the Rogue Ascension Effects menu and review all your active upgrades, stack counts, current level, and whether a draft is pending.

Overview

Rogue Ascension Draft is a roguelike progression layer built on top of Minecraft's existing XP level system. As you level up through normal gameplay — killing mobs, smelting, enchanting, farming — the mod tracks your level and triggers a three-card upgrade draft at every fifth level. Over time, you build a personal set of stacked upgrades drawn from a pool of 31 unique options spanning offensive power, defensive resilience, utility tools, chaotic wildcards, and meta-progression perks.

All upgrades are managed server-side, meaning your progress persists reliably across sessions and on multiplayer servers. Rogue effects do not appear as standard Minecraft status effect icons, keeping your HUD clean.

Upgrade Tiers

Upgrades come in four tiers, drawn with weighted randomness:

Certain Meta upgrades can increase your chance of seeing Legendary cards or bias the pool toward Chaos upgrades.

Effect Types

The pool of upgrade effects includes (among others):

• Fire damage — melee hits sear targets, scaling with your rogue level
• Bleed — percentage chance to apply delayed magic damage on hit
• Critical strikes — chance and multiplier bonuses on attacks
• Chain lightning — hits arc to nearby extra targets
• Explosions — chance to cause an area-of-effect burst on hit
• Execute — chance to instantly kill low-health targets
• Lifesteal — recover health proportional to damage dealt
• Damage reduction and dodge — reduce or completely avoid incoming hits
• Max health boost, regeneration, resistance — passive survivability buffs
• Absorption — periodic bonus hearts on a cooldown
• Thorns — reflect damage back to attackers
• Dash — a movement burst ability on a cooldown
• XP generation — passively gain XP levels on a timer
• Turret — a periodic damaging entity spawned near you
• Healing on kill — restore health when you slay an enemy
• Cooldown reduction — reduce the cooldown of timed rogue abilities
• Extra drafts — trigger additional draft picks every milestone
• Double next upgrade — your next draft pick is applied twice

How To Use

The Draft Screen

When a draft triggers, your screen is replaced by the Rogue Ascension Draft interface. Three upgrade cards are displayed side by side. Each card shows:

• The upgrade's name and tier (color-coded)
• A category icon using a Minecraft item as a visual
• A description of what the upgrade does
• The numerical effect it provides per stack
• How it applies and stacks

Click the Choose button beneath the card you want. The screen closes automatically and your upgrade takes effect immediately. If a draft is pending but you haven't chosen yet, the ' menu will show "Pending draft: yes" as a reminder.

The Rogue Effects Menu

Press ' (apostrophe) at any time to open your personal Rogue Ascension Effects screen. This panel displays:

• Your current rogue level
• Your total upgrade stacks across all upgrades
• Whether a draft is pending
• A scrollable list of all active rogue effects and their current values
• A list of all chosen upgrades and how many stacks you hold

The menu does not pause the game. Close it with the Close button or press Escape.

Abilities And Mechanics

Stacking

Most upgrades can be chosen multiple times (up to a per-upgrade maximum). Each additional stack adds its numerical bonus again. For example, taking Ember Veins twice deals +3.0 fire damage per hit instead of +1.5. Once an upgrade reaches its maximum stack count it is removed from the draft pool (blacklisted) so you never waste a pick on a maxed upgrade.

Level Scaling

Some effects scale dynamically with your rogue level. Fire damage from Ember Veins, for instance, gains an additional +0.05 per rogue level on top of the base per-stack value, so the upgrade grows stronger the further into your run you progress.

Weighted Rarity and Bias

Each draft roll is weighted by tier. You are most likely to see Common cards and least likely to see Legendary cards. Certain upgrades modify these weights:

• Legendary weight bonuses (from specific upgrades) increase the weight of Legendary cards appearing.
• Chaos bias (unlocked by a specific upgrade) multiplies the draw weight of all Chaos-category upgrades by 2.25×.

Timed Abilities

Some upgrades grant abilities with internal cooldowns tracked server-side:

• Dash — a burst of movement usable on a cooldown
• Absorption — bonus hearts refreshed periodically
• XP generation — levels granted on a fixed timer
• Turret — a damaging effect spawned near you at intervals

Cooldown reduction upgrades shorten these timers.

Progression And Strategy

Building a Run

Because drafts trigger every 5 levels, consistent XP farming accelerates your power curve. Focus on XP sources (mob farms, smelting, trading) to draft more often and stack upgrades faster.

Synergies to Consider

• Stack Ember Veins early — it scales with your rogue level, so picks made at level 5 are still growing at level 50.
• Lifesteal + damage multipliers create a self-sustaining combat loop.
• Chaos Bias + Chaos upgrades can lead to explosive, high-variance builds for players who want unpredictability.
• Meta upgrades that grant extra drafts per milestone compound everything else — more picks mean faster stacking.

Commands

All commands are self-targeted and require appropriate permissions on a server:

Persistence

Your rogue progress — level, chosen upgrades, stack counts, pending draft state — is saved with your player data and reloads when you rejoin the world or server. Nothing is lost on death or logout.
