Survive the Red Dawn Siege: endless Soviet soldiers, blood moons, and a god-tier starter kit
Mod Wiki
Red Dawn Siege
Quickstart
- Load the world with the Red Dawn Siege behavior and resource packs enabled.
- The invasion starts automatically — no crafting or item required. Once triggered, you're immediately given a full survival kit and Soviet Soldiers begin spawning around you.
- Check your inventory and equipped armor: you'll be wearing a full set of enchanted Netherite armor, and carrying a Netherite Sword, Netherite Axe, an enchanted Bow, and a stack of Golden Apples.
- Watch the action bar — it tells you whether a normal siege or a Blood Moon is active.
- Fight off Soviet Soldiers as they close in. During a Blood Moon, they cannot be killed by any means, so your priority shifts to survival and evasion rather than combat.
Overview
Red Dawn Siege turns survival into a relentless defense against a Soviet military invasion. Ordinary hostile mobs are swept away and replaced with Soviet Soldiers — armed, armored raiders that hunt players in squads. Every so often, a terrifying Blood Moon descends, during which the soldiers become completely unkillable, forcing you to survive rather than fight. To help you stand a chance, you're handed a fully enchanted, top-tier loadout the moment the siege begins.
What It Adds
- Soviet Soldier — a hostile, humanoid enemy that spawns in growing numbers around every player. They fight with melee attacks up close and switch to ranged crossbow/bow attacks at range or when submerged. They can also act as squad captains, rallying nearby soldiers, holding ground, and calling in reinforcements much like an illager raid.
- Blood Moon Event — a recurring event that periodically overtakes the world. While active, Soviet Soldiers spawned during that period become completely immune to damage.
- Starter Kit — a one-time delivery of a maxed-out gear set to every player when the siege begins.
- Soviet Soldier Spawn Egg — lets you manually spawn Soviet Soldiers if you want to summon more of them yourself.
How To Use
- Automatic invasion: Shortly after the world loads, the siege activates on its own. All standard hostile mobs (zombies, skeletons, creepers, spiders, endermen, witches, wardens, and more) are removed and replaced by Soviet Soldiers.
- Watch the action bar: It displays the current siege status:
- A gray message means a normal siege is underway — soldiers can be fought and killed as usual.
- A red "BLOOD MOON" warning means soldiers spawned during this cycle cannot be killed by any damage source.
- Fighting soldiers: Soviet Soldiers behave like an aggressive raid party. They'll close in for melee combat, back off to shoot arrows or crossbow bolts at range, switch to ranged mode automatically if you're underwater or they take damage, and can form squads with a captain that rallies followers and holds strategic positions.
- Looting: Defeated Soviet Soldiers (outside of a Blood Moon) can drop crossbows, sometimes enchanted.
- Spawn Egg: Use the Soviet Soldier Spawn Egg like any vanilla spawn egg to place additional soldiers wherever you like.
Crafting And Obtaining
There are no crafting recipes for this mod's content — everything is delivered automatically or through commands/spawn eggs:
- The starter kit (Netherite armor, Netherite Sword, Netherite Axe, enchanted Bow, and 5 stacks of Golden Apples) is given to every player automatically once per siege activation. You cannot craft it — it's issued directly to you.
- Soviet Soldiers spawn on their own around players as the siege progresses, or can be summoned manually using their spawn egg.
Abilities And Mechanics
- Growing threat: As you play, the number of Soviet Soldiers near each player steadily increases up to a set cap, keeping pressure on you continuously rather than in a single wave.
- Hostile mob replacement: Vanilla hostile mobs are actively removed from the world, so Soviet Soldiers become the primary (and eventually only) threat you'll face.
- Adaptive combat AI: Soldiers switch between melee and ranged combat depending on distance, whether they're in water, and whether they've been hit — making them dangerous at any range.
- Squad tactics: Captains among the soldiers can rally nearby troops, hold defensive positions, and coordinate group behavior similar to a raid, making group encounters more challenging than fighting soldiers one at a time.
- Blood Moon invulnerability: During a Blood Moon, all Soviet Soldiers spawned in that window take no damage from any source. This is a survival-only phase — running, hiding, or repositioning is your best strategy until the Blood Moon passes.
Progression And Strategy
- Because your starter kit already includes top-tier Netherite gear, infinity-enchanted bow, and dozens of Golden Apples, you can jump straight into fighting without needing to progress through early survival stages.
- Use golden apples liberally to sustain yourself through prolonged soldier encounters, especially since your gear is designed for long fights (Unbreaking, Mending, and heavy protection enchantments are already applied).
- Keep track of the day count in your world — Blood Moons recur on a set cycle, so learn to recognize the action bar warning and plan safe retreats or fortified positions in advance.
- Since normal hostile mobs are removed, treat Soviet Soldiers as your sole enemy type: focus on managing their numbers near you and using terrain or ranged weapons to whittle down squads before they overwhelm you in melee.
- During Blood Moons, prioritize escape routes, shelter, and outlasting the event rather than attempting to fight — no amount of gear will let you kill an unkillable soldier.
