Overview
The Puppeteer Staff is a rare, enchant-glowing staff that lets you temporarily take over the body of any mob or player. Fire a fast string-like projectile, land the shot, and for the next 10 seconds you become the puppeteer — directly driving your target's movement while they helplessly follow your commands.
What It Adds
| Item | Description |
|---|
| Puppeteer Staff | A hand-held staff that fires a possession projectile. Rare rarity, glint effect, max stack of 1. |
How To Use
Firing the Projectile
Hold the Puppeteer Staff and press Use to launch the string projectile. It travels fast in the direction you are looking, trailing white particles. A short cooldown prevents rapid-fire spamming — wait a moment between shots.
Possessing a Target
When the projectile strikes a mob or another player, possession begins instantly:
- You see a purple action bar displaying the target's name and a countdown in seconds.
- The target (if a player) sees a message telling them their body is being controlled.
- Night Vision is applied to you for the duration so you can see clearly wherever the target goes.
Controlling Your Puppet
While possession is active:
| Your Input | Target's Action |
|---|
| Move (WASD / joystick) | Target walks/runs in that direction |
| Look up / down | Controls target's vertical aim |
| Sneak | Target crouches |
Possession End
Possession ends automatically after 10 seconds. Both you and the target receive a notification when it expires. You cannot possess yourself — the shot simply won't attach if it somehow hits you.
Crafting And Obtaining
Craft the Puppeteer Staff at a Crafting Table. The recipe unlocks once you have String or a Blaze Rod in your inventory.
Abilities And Mechanics
- Projectile speed: Very fast — difficult for targets to dodge at close to medium range.
- Projectile lifetime: The string shot disappears after a short time if it doesn't hit anything, so extremely long-range shots may miss.
- Visual effects: White string/end-rod particles stream along the projectile's path and at the point of impact.
- Anti-spam cooldown: A brief cooldown is enforced between shots so the staff cannot be fired continuously.
- Durability: The staff has 384 durability. Each shot has a chance to consume durability. Repair it at an anvil using String.
- Enchantability: The staff can be enchanted using sword-type enchantments.
Progression And Strategy
- Early game: Gather String (from spiders) and a Blaze Rod (from Blazes in the Nether) to unlock the recipe. The other materials — an Amethyst Shard and a Clay Ball — are easy to obtain once you have those two.
- Combat use: Possess a powerful mob (like a Warden or Creeper) and steer it away from you, or aim it at other enemies to deal damage without risk to yourself.
- Multiplayer: Possessing another player temporarily strips them of control — a strong tactical tool in PvP or mini-games. The target always receives a visible warning, so surprise is key.
- Maintenance: Carry spare String to keep the staff repaired during extended sessions.
