Mob Chains

Quickstart

1. Craft Mob Chains using the recipe below — you'll get 4 per craft.
2. Select Mob Chains in your hotbar and right-click to throw them at any mob.
3. When the chains hit, the mob freezes in place and glows — walk up to it.
4. Right-click the glowing mob while still holding Mob Chains to crush it instantly and collect all its loot.

Overview

Mob Chains are a throwable combat item that gives you precise, two-step control over killing mobs. Throw the chains to immobilize a target, then finish it off with a right-click crush — all without wasting durability or extra items. The item is found in the Combat creative tab and stacks up to 16.

How To Use

Throwing

Hold Mob Chains in your hand and right-click (Use Item) to hurl them like a projectile. The chains arc through the air with light gravity. There is a brief 1-second cooldown between throws.

On Hit

When the chains strike a living mob:

• The mob is completely immobilized (extreme Slowness) for 10 seconds.
• The mob gains a glowing outline, making it visible through walls and easy to track.
• A burst of crit particles and a chain-hit sound confirm the hit.
• One Mob Chain is consumed from your stack (not consumed in Creative mode).

Crushing

While the mob is still bound and glowing, right-click directly on it with Mob Chains in hand. This instantly kills the mob with an anvil-crush sound and drops all of its normal loot — including experience, rare drops, and anything it was carrying. The Mob Chains item in your hand is not consumed by the crush.

Tip: If the 10-second window expires before you crush the mob, the immobilization and glow wear off and you'll need to throw again.

The recipe uses Chains, Ender Pearls, and Gunpowder arranged in a symmetric cross pattern, yielding 4 Mob Chains. The recipe is automatically known upon joining a world — no advancement unlock required.

Abilities And Mechanics

• The bound mob is rendered completely unable to move — not just slowed — due to an extreme Slowness amplifier.
• The Glowing effect lets you see the bound mob through terrain, useful in caves or dense forests.
• The crush kill counts as a player kill, so mobs drop their player-kill-only loot (e.g., rare drops that require a player to deal the killing blow).

Progression And Strategy

• Early game: Mob Chains are moderately expensive (Ender Pearls required), but the 4-per-craft yield makes them sustainable for routine mob farming.
• Cave exploration: Throw at a hostile mob to freeze it, giving you time to reposition or deal with other threats before crushing it.
• Farm efficiency: The no-consume crush mechanic means a single chain can neutralize and kill a mob with minimal resource cost after the initial throw.
• Boss-like mobs: The immobilize effect works on any living entity, making tough or fast mobs trivial to finish off safely.
• Carry a healthy stack of 16 for extended dungeon runs — you'll throw one per mob but never lose chains to the crush step.
