Melon Marsh Capybara

Quickstart

1. Open your Creative inventory and search for A Totally Accurate Capybara Spawn Egg (found in the Spawn Eggs tab).
2. Right-click the ground in a swamp, jungle, forest, river, or similar wetland biome to spawn A Totally Accurate Capybara.
3. Toss a Melon Slice or Melon on the ground near it and watch it react — the capybara will waddle over, pick up the item, and break into a little dance accompanied by its signature sound.
4. If you hit the capybara, it will flee toward the nearest water and submerge for safety.

Overview

Melon Marsh Capybara adds a single passive mob — A Totally Accurate Capybara — to Minecraft's wetland and forested biomes. It is a calm, ambient creature that minds its own business, loves melons, and retreats to water when threatened. True to real capybara behavior, it is a strong swimmer and can stay submerged for extended periods.

Abilities And Mechanics

Passive Wandering

The capybara wanders wetlands and forests peacefully. It follows parents when young and occasionally glances at nearby players, but poses no threat.

Melon Attraction & Dance

Drop a Melon Slice or a whole Melon on the ground within about 3 blocks of a capybara. It will navigate toward the item, pick it up, and briefly dance while playing its unique capybara sound. Baby capybaras play the sound at a higher pitch. After dancing, there is a short cooldown before it will react to melons again.

Flee to Water

When damaged, the capybara immediately turns and sprints for the nearest water source. Once in the water, it submerges and stays there. It will remain submerged for up to 5 minutes or until no players are nearby for at least 10 seconds, whichever comes first. It can breathe underwater indefinitely.

Spawning

Capybaras spawn naturally in groups of 1–2 in the following biomes:

Common spawns (weight 6):

• Swamp, Mangrove Swamp
• River
• Forest, Flower Forest, Birch Forest, Old Growth Birch Forest, Dark Forest
• Jungle, Bamboo Jungle, Sparse Jungle

Rare spawns (weight 1):

• Savanna, Savanna Plateau, Windswept Savanna

You can also spawn one anywhere using A Totally Accurate Capybara Spawn Egg, which features warm brown and dark brown coloring matching the capybara's fur.

Progression And Strategy

• Peaceful base companion: Capybaras add life to wetland builds without any risk to the player. Place a water feature nearby and they will naturally gravitate to it when spooked.
• Melon farm interaction: Having a melon farm near a capybara habitat will cause them to react to any melon items that fall on the ground — a fun ambient detail for farm builds.
• Finding them: Your best chance at spotting a capybara is along rivers, swamps, and jungle edges, especially near water. Listen for their sound to locate a dancing one nearby.
