Quickstart

1. Craft a Ranch Lasso and Herding Whistle .
2. Aim at a cow within 14 blocks and use the lasso to tug it. Use the whistle to drive nearby cattle away from you.
3. To gentle an untamed horse, donkey, or mule, use Training Oats on it, or interact with it using an empty hand. Wait for the in-game days shown in the start message for it to become tamed.

Overview

Living Ranch Life adds ranch tools and interactions for handling cattle and gentling equines. Cows shy away from nearby players, wolves, and horses, while the whistle and lasso help you manage them.

What It Adds

How To Use

• Herd cattle: Use the whistle to push cows within 24 blocks away from your position. Cows flee from players, wolves, and horses within 8 blocks. Leashed cows do not flee this way.
• Tug a cow: Aim at a cow within 14 blocks with a clear line of sight and use the Ranch Lasso. A successful use consumes one lasso.
• Mark a wolf: Use the Herding Whistle on a wolf to mark it as a Border Collie. The message reports it as male or female.
• Fit a halter: Use the Ranch Halter on a horse, donkey, or mule for a confirmation message.
• Use the Electric Fence Post: Place it like a block. Entities stepping on it take 1 damage when its damage trigger fires, at most once every 20 ticks.

Gentling starts when you use Training Oats on an untamed equine or interact with one using an empty hand. The start message gives the wait time:

When the time is up, the animal becomes tamed to the player who started gentling. That player must be present in the same world when training completes; if absent at the finish, it completes once they return.

Progression And Strategy

Use the whistle to gather skittish cattle, then lasso individual cows that need a tug. Start gentling early—the animal type determines how long it takes—and check the completion message before setting off on a journey.
