Living Canvas Brush

Quickstart

1. Gather wool, paper, and a stick at a crafting table.
2. Craft the Living Canvas Brush:

1. Hold the brush and use it (right-click / long-press on a surface) to place a painting stand loaded with paper.
2. "Draw" on the paper by continuing to use the brush — after a short brushing animation, your sketch comes to life as a temporary ally entity that will fight for you or respond to your commands.
3. Repeat once your sketch's lifetime expires to summon a new one.

Overview

The Living Canvas Brush is a rare, enchantable paintbrush that doubles as a melee weapon and a summoning tool. Wielding it, you can conjure temporary living sketches — creatures pulled straight from your imagination onto the battlefield. Each sketch fights alongside you for a limited time before fading away, making the brush a dynamic mix of combat gear and creative summoning tool.

What It Adds

No new blocks, mobs with permanent spawning, or dimensions are added — the mod is centred entirely on this single powerful item and the temporary entities it conjures.

How To Use

As a Weapon

The brush deals 4 damage per hit and is treated as a sword for enchanting and combat purposes. Swing it like any melee weapon to attack enemies directly.

As a Summoning Tool

Hold the brush and activate it against a surface (the brushing animation plays). After the short use duration, a living sketch — a randomly chosen creature entity — spawns as your temporary companion. The sketch will fight hostile mobs or act on commands for a limited time before disappearing on its own.

• Each summon has a cooldown, so you cannot spam sketches back-to-back.
• Only one sketch is active at a time per use cycle.
• The sketch lifetime is finite; when it expires the entity vanishes automatically.

Bonus Tool Behaviour

The brush has enhanced digging speed against wool, carpet, and paintings, making it handy for clearing decorative blocks quickly.

Abilities And Mechanics

Repairing the brush at an anvil:

• Paper restores 60 durability per piece.
• Feather restores 40 durability per piece.

The brush accepts all sword enchantments (Sharpness, Looting, Fire Aspect, etc.) and glows with an enchantment shimmer even before enchanting.

Progression And Strategy

• Early game: The materials (wool, paper, stick) are all easy to obtain, so you can craft the brush very early. Even without enchantments its summoned sketches provide useful distraction or DPS.
• Mid game: Enchant the brush with Sharpness and Looting to increase both your direct melee output and the loot value of kills your sketches assist with.
• Combat tip: Use the brush animation (which slows movement) in a safe spot, then let your sketch engage enemies while you follow up with melee strikes. Time your cooldowns so a fresh sketch is always ready before major fights.
• Durability management: Keep paper and feathers in your inventory for quick anvil repairs — both are renewable and inexpensive.
