Living Canvas

Quickstart

1. Craft the Living Canvas using paper and a glow ink sac (see recipe below).
2. Equip the Living Canvas and find a lectern — this is your painting stand.
3. Right-click (or use the interact button) on the lectern 5 times to sketch your design. Each stroke plays a page-turn sound and a sparkle effect, with an action bar counter tracking your progress.
4. Once your design is complete, step out into the open and use the item (not on a block) to bring your drawing to life as a random construct that spawns in front of you.
5. Repeat the process to draw and summon again — your canvas resets automatically after each creation.

Overview

Living Canvas turns painting into a magical crafting loop: sketch a design on a lectern, then use the finished canvas to summon a living creation out of thin air. It's a lightweight, whimsical tool for players who want a bit of unpredictable magic in their world — every finished drawing brings something different to life.

What It Adds

• Living Canvas — an enchanted-looking paintbrush/tool item with a golden glint, used to draw designs and summon constructs.
• A crafting recipe to make the Living Canvas from common materials.
• A drawing-and-summoning mechanic built entirely around the Living Canvas item and any lectern block.

How To Use

Drawing: Use the Living Canvas on a lectern block to add a "brush stroke" to your current design. You need 5 strokes to finish a design. The action bar tells you how many strokes you've added so far.

Bringing it to life: Once your design has 5 strokes, use the Living Canvas while not aimed at a block (i.e., out in the open). Your finished sketch springs to life just in front of you, accompanied by a totem-style particle burst and a level-up sound.

What appears: The construct that spawns is chosen randomly each time from a pool of possibilities, including:

You won't know what you'll get until it appears — part of the fun is the surprise. After a construct is summoned, your canvas resets to zero strokes so you can start a brand new drawing.

Durability and repair: The Living Canvas has limited durability and will eventually wear out with use. Repair it by combining it with paper.

Cooldown: After each use, the Living Canvas needs a brief moment to "recharge" before it can be used again.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Two-step interaction: Using the canvas on a lectern draws; using it in the open (not targeting a block) summons.
• Progress tracking: Your drawing progress is personal and persists between uses until you either finish the design or summon a construct, which resets it.
• Randomized rewards: Every completed drawing has a chance to become any of the six constructs, making each summon a small surprise.
• Fragile tool: The canvas has low durability, so keep paper on hand to repair it and keep the magic flowing.

Progression And Strategy

There's no deep tech tree here — the loop is simple: draw, summon, repeat. To make the most of it:

• Keep a lectern nearby (or place one specifically as your "painting stand") so you can quickly refill your design.
• Stock up on paper both for crafting the Living Canvas and for repairing it later.
• Since the summoned construct is random, use the Living Canvas as a fun way to add companions, decorations, or utility entities (like an Allay or Iron Golem) to your builds without needing their normal spawning conditions.
• Because summoning requires open space in front of you, make sure you're not facing a wall or block when you use the finished canvas, or the creation may fail to appear properly.
