Idle Fern Block

Quickstart

1. Craft the Idle Fern Block using the recipe below, or find it in the Natural creative tab.
2. Right-click the top face of any dirt, moss, or solid ground block to place it.
3. Stand within ~6 blocks and look directly at the placed fern — you'll hear a unique audio cue the first time.
4. Keep the fern in your inventory for 10 minutes to earn a reward!

Overview

The Idle Fern Block is a decorative 1×1 plant block featuring a detailed 3D fern model with rich foliage and transparent cutout rendering. It looks more lifelike than a standard flat plant sprite and fits naturally into gardens, forest builds, and nature-themed areas. Beyond its looks, the fern has two passive interactions that reward observant and patient players.

How To Use

Placing the Fern

• Hold the Idle Fern Block and right-click the top face of a valid support block.
• Valid supports include dirt-type blocks, moss blocks, and any block with a solid top surface.
• You cannot place it on side faces, in mid-air, or with vertical offsets — it must sit flush on top of a ground block.
• The fern faces toward you when placed and rotates based on your direction.

Breaking the Fern

• Break it like any other block. It drops itself as an item and is safe to pick back up and re-place.
• Placement and block state persist correctly through world saves and reloads.

Abilities And Mechanics

First-Look Audio Cue

• The first time you look directly at a placed Idle Fern Block while within approximately 6 blocks, a short audio cue plays.
• This triggers only once per fern per player — subsequent looks at the same fern will not replay the sound.

Inventory XP Bottle Reward

• Keep the Idle Fern Block anywhere in your inventory for 10 continuous minutes.
• After 10 minutes, you automatically receive 3 Experience Bottles and the message:

  "The Fern has granted you 3 xp bottles"

• This reward repeats every 10 minutes as long as the fern stays in your inventory.
• If you remove the fern from your inventory, the timer resets — you must keep it in your inventory for a full uninterrupted 10 minutes to earn the next reward.

Crafting And Obtaining

The recipe is unlocked automatically when you join a world. Craft it using six Ferns and three Moss Blocks:

Progression And Strategy

• Early game: Ferns are easy to find in most forest and jungle biomes. Moss Blocks can be found in lush caves or obtained with bone meal on stone. The recipe is accessible without much effort.
• Passive XP farming: Once crafted, simply keep one or more Idle Fern Blocks in your inventory while playing normally. Every 10 minutes of continuous play with the fern on hand nets you 3 Experience Bottles — a hands-free supplement to your XP income.
• Don't swap it out: The timer resets if the fern leaves your inventory, so avoid storing it in chests or dropping it during combat if you want uninterrupted rewards.
• Decoration: Place ferns in your builds for a lush, natural aesthetic — then pick them back up to resume the inventory timer whenever you're ready.
