Quickstart

Craft a Hearts And Stuff item, then hold it and use your usual eat control (right-click by default). Each one raises your maximum health by one heart and restores that much health. You can also earn one by defeating another player.

Try it first on yourself: the recipe uses gold ingots, an apple, and redstone. You can eat the item even when your hunger bar is full.

Overview

Hearts And Stuff adds a consumable that increases maximum health, plus a player-versus-player heart-stealing mechanic. Vanilla players start with 10 hearts; consuming the item can raise your maximum to 64 hearts.

What It Adds

• Hearts And Stuff item: A stackable food item used to increase maximum health.
• Heart stealing: Defeating another player earns you one item, while reducing the defeated player’s maximum health when possible.

How To Use

Hold the item and use your eat control to consume it. It works at full hunger, but cannot be consumed once your maximum health has reached 64 hearts.

In multiplayer, defeating another player gives the killer one item. If the killer’s inventory is full, the item drops nearby.

Crafting And Obtaining

Craft the item using the recipe shown above, or earn it by defeating another player. The recipe becomes available after you join a world.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Each consumed item adds one heart to your maximum health and restores one heart of health.
• Your maximum health cannot exceed 64 hearts.
• A defeated player loses one heart of maximum health if they have more than one heart’s worth of maximum health remaining. No player can be reduced below one heart this way.
• The health changes carry through respawning.

Progression And Strategy

Craft items to grow your health without relying on PvP. In multiplayer, winning fights can both increase your supply of heart items and limit your defeated rivals’ maximum health. Keep some inventory space free to collect the item after a victory.
