Hardening Foam

Quickstart

1. Gather slime balls and a honey bottle.
2. Craft Density foam at a crafting table (see recipe below) — you get 4 blocks per craft.
3. Place the foam anywhere you want to slow or trap someone (or yourself for testing).
4. Step inside the yellow porous block — you'll immediately be slowed.
5. Stay inside for about 10 seconds and watch it harden into a yellow-tan block that pins you in place.
6. Break the hardened foam with an axe or shears to free anyone trapped inside.

Overview

Hardening Foam adds a single block — Density foam — that starts out soft and traversable, then permanently hardens around anyone who lingers inside it too long. It's a trap block with two distinct states: a wet phase that slows movement and a hardened phase that completely immobilises anyone caught within it.

How To Use

Placing Wet Foam

Place Density foam like any normal block. Players (and you) can walk through it — there is no solid collision — but movement is heavily slowed by a Slowness effect the moment you step inside. A squelching sound plays on contact.

Hardening

If a player stands inside wet foam continuously for approximately 10 seconds, the block hardens automatically. The texture shifts to a drier yellow-tan and a deeper squelch sound plays. Anyone inside at the moment of hardening is fully immobilised — they cannot move or jump for as long as they remain inside the hardened block. Looking around is still possible.

Freeing Trapped Players

Break the hardened Density foam to release anyone pinned inside. Use an axe or shears for the fastest break speed. The hardened form is noticeably tougher than the wet form, so bare-hand breaking is slow.

Tip: Shears are especially handy — they break both wet and hardened foam quickly and you always recover the wet foam item as a drop.

Crafting And Obtaining

Breaking either the wet or hardened form of the block always drops 1 wet Density foam block, so you can pick up and reuse foam indefinitely.

Abilities And Mechanics

• No collision box — players and entities pass through Density foam freely in its wet state; it does not act as a solid wall.
• Slowness on contact — stepping onto or into wet foam immediately applies a Slowness effect. The effect ends when you step off.
• 10-second hardening timer — the countdown only progresses while a player is actively standing inside the block. Leaving resets the counter for that player.
• Immobilisation — hardened foam locks movement and jumping for any player inside. Camera rotation still works normally.
• Explosion resistance — Density foam has low but non-zero explosion resistance, so it won't vanish from a single creeper blast.
• Drops wet foam — both wet and hardened forms drop the wet foam item when broken, keeping your supply intact.

Progression And Strategy

• Trap corridors: Line a narrow hallway with Density foam. Anyone walking through is slowed and, if they pause or fight, quickly hardened in place.
• Escape routes: Use wet foam as a one-way slow zone — easy for someone who knows it's there (they move quickly and don't linger) but punishing for unaware pursuers.
• Rescue priority: If a teammate is trapped, equip an axe or shears immediately — bare-hand breaking the hardened form takes significantly longer.
• Re-use your drops: Broken foam always returns a wet block, so you never permanently consume your supply. Carry shears to mine it back up efficiently.
