Greatwood Expanse

Quickstart

1. Make sure you have operator permissions (permission level 2) in your world.
2. Stand somewhere with open space around you — this will become the center of your forest.
3. Run /greatwood create to generate the expanse at the default 96-block radius, or pick your own size: /greatwood create 64 (min 32, max 160).
4. Wait a moment while the forest grows. When it finishes, you are teleported safely above the camp clearing at the center.
5. Look around the clearing for a campfire, crafting table, and chest — grab supplies and start exploring!

Overview

Greatwood Expanse is a command-driven forest map generator. One command transforms a flat or ordinary area into a lush, hand-shaped woodland complete with towering trees, wildflowers, hidden ponds, a cozy starter camp, underground cave tunnels, and roaming wildlife. It is designed as an instant playable survival or adventure space — great for fresh worlds, creative projects, or custom maps.

What It Adds

Terrain

• Gently rolling ground shaped by natural-looking sine-wave hills.
• Dense oak and birch forest across the entire expanse; trees range from 5 to 12 blocks tall.
• Ground cover: grass, ferns, poppies, and dandelions scattered throughout.
• Ponds in the outer regions of the forest.

The Camp Clearing

• A mossy open clearing at the exact center of the expanse.
• A lit campfire, a crafting table, and a chest with starter supplies — everything you need to begin surviving.

Underground

• Carved cave tunnels beneath the forest floor.
• Torch markers placed inside so you can find your way and have light for early mining.

Wildlife

• Passive animals spawn and roam freely across the expanse.

How To Use

Generating the Forest

Note: These commands require operator permission level 2. They must be run by an in-game player — they cannot be used from the server console.

After generation completes, you are automatically teleported to a safe position above the camp clearing so you land right in the action.

Choosing a Radius

• 32 — A compact forest; quick to generate, good for small plots or testing.
• 96 (default) — A full, immersive expanse with plenty of room to explore and build.
• 160 — A massive woodland that takes a few extra seconds to generate but gives the most space for adventure.

Abilities And Mechanics

Terrain shaping uses layered math to produce gently uneven ground that looks natural without being jarring to build on.

Tree generation places oak logs and leaves by default, with roughly a 1-in-5 chance of any given tree being a birch variant instead, giving the forest a mixed, realistic appearance.

Pond placement only appears in the outer 45% of the expanse radius, keeping the central area dry and camp-friendly.

Cave carving tunnels through the terrain below the surface. Torches are placed inside the caves so early explorers are never left completely in the dark.

Wildlife spawning places passive animals throughout the expanse after terrain generation finishes, populating the world naturally.

Safe teleport — the moment generation completes, you are moved 8 blocks above the center clearing so you never get buried or stuck inside newly placed blocks.

Progression And Strategy

• Day 1: Head straight to the camp chest for starter supplies, use the crafting table to craft tools, and gather wood from the trees just outside the clearing.
• Exploration: The forest is densest toward the edges; venture out to find thicker groves and the scattered ponds.
• Caving: Drop into one of the underground tunnels (look for openings in the hillsides or dig down) — the torches inside make early cave exploration safer and mark where others have already been.
• Building: The clearing and the rolling terrain make excellent foundations for a base. The mixed oak/birch forest gives variety in wood types without requiring you to travel far.
• Scaling up: If you want a larger world to build in, re-run /greatwood create 160 in a fresh area for the biggest possible expanse.
