Gamblers Tome

Quickstart

1. Craft the Gamblers Tome using the recipe below.
2. Equip a sword, pickaxe, axe, or bow in your main hand.
3. Move the Gamblers Tome to your offhand.
4. Right-click (use item) while holding the tome in your offhand to roll a random buff onto your held tool or weapon.
5. Check the tooltip on your weapon/tool to see the buff you rolled — hope for a high roll, or risk keeping a bad one forever!

Overview

The Gamblers Tome is a one-shot gambling item. Each Tome can be consumed on a compatible weapon or tool to permanently roll a random performance bonus (or penalty) into it. There's no way to reroll an item that's already locked into a path — once a tool has been rolled, you're stuck with the result unless you accept the risk and gamble on a fresh roll before it's "perfected."

How To Use

• Hold the tome in your offhand and the eligible item in your main hand — this is required, using it any other way fails.
• The tome inspects your main-hand item to decide which pathway applies:
  • Swords always roll attack damage.
  • Pickaxes always roll mining speed.
  • Bows always roll arrow velocity.
  • Axes roll mining speed if you're sneaking, otherwise attack damage.
• Using the tome consumes one copy of it and applies a permanent percentage modifier to the held item.
• Once an item has been assigned a pathway, it can only receive further rolls on that same pathway — you cannot switch a sword-turned-damage item to mining, for example.
• If an item's roll reaches the maximum possible value for its pathway, it becomes Perfect and is locked — no further tomes can be used on it.
• The tooltip on an affected item shows its current bonus (green for positive, red for negative) and whether it has reached "Perfect — Locked" status.

Abilities And Mechanics

Each roll picks a percentage modifier that can be negative (a penalty) or positive (a bonus):

• Most rolls land in a moderate range, but there's always a chance of a strong negative penalty (as low as -10%).
• Rare rolls can hit a high bonus, up to the pathway's cap:
  • Mining Speed caps at +20%.
  • Attack Damage and Arrow Velocity cap at +30%.
• Hitting the maximum roll for a pathway marks the item as Perfect, permanently locking in that bonus and blocking any further use of the tome on it.
• The applied bonus is enforced directly in gameplay: melee damage, block-breaking speed, and arrow velocity are all adjusted in real time based on the rolled modifier while the item is held.

Progression And Strategy

• Because a poor roll (even a penalty) permanently locks a tool into its pathway, decide carefully before using a tome on a valuable weapon or tool.
• You can keep rolling the same item repeatedly (using more tomes) to try to improve its bonus, but every roll risks landing a worse result than what you already have — there's no way to remove a rolled bonus once applied.
• The safest strategy is to gamble on cheap or common gear first, saving Perfect results for your best equipment.
• Watch your tool's tooltip closely: a "Perfect — Locked" tag means that item's gambling days are over — for better or worse.
