Gallic Battle Horde
Quickstart
- Load into your world with the pack active — no setup required.
- Explore normally. Hostile mobs (zombies, skeletons, creepers, spiders, endermen, and more) that would normally spawn are automatically replaced with Gallic Soldiers.
- Watch the action bar for a live counter tracking the ongoing horde campaign (
Gallic day/night horde: X / 900 deployed).
- If you want the soldiers to actively hunt you down instead of just defending themselves, run:
/tag @s add gallic_target
Remove it anytime with /tag @s remove gallic_target to opt back out.
- Fight the soldiers for loot, or spawn one yourself for testing with a Gallic Soldier Spawn Egg from the creative inventory.
Overview
Gallic Battle Horde turns your world into an ongoing French military campaign. Instead of the usual assortment of hostile mobs, you'll face waves of armored Gallic Soldiers who muster at every daybreak and nightfall. The horde is designed to feel endless — soldiers keep reinforcing near you up to a massive campaign total each phase, while older ones are cleared out to keep things running smoothly.
What It Adds
- Gallic Soldier — a melee-focused illager-type hostile mob wielding a soldier's bearing (pillager-based model and animations), with sturdy health and a solid attack.
- Gallic Soldier Spawn Egg — lets you summon a soldier directly, useful for testing or setting up your own encounters.
- Automatic hostile mob replacement — the usual hostile mobs (zombies, skeletons, creepers, spiders, endermen, witches, illagers, blazes, wardens, and many more) are converted into Gallic Soldiers the moment they would normally spawn near a player.
- Phase-based campaign system — every transition between day and night triggers a new "muster," announced in chat, with soldiers deploying toward a running total of 900 for that phase.
- Opt-in targeting — players can mark themselves as priority targets so the horde actively pursues them, or leave the tag off to be treated more passively.
How To Use
- Just play. No crafting or setup is needed — the horde system runs automatically in the background once the pack is active.
- Watch for warnings. Chat messages announce when "the Gallic battle horde is mustering," and an on-screen action bar shows deployment progress each phase.
- Choose your role:
- Leave yourself untagged, and soldiers you encounter will be more courtly — attacking only if provoked or if you get in the way of their nearby targets (villagers, iron golems).
- Add the
gallic_target tag to yourself to become a marked target that soldiers will actively seek out and pursue across a wide radius.
- Fight and loot. Defeating a soldier drops emeralds and iron nuggets, and grants experience if you land the finishing blow.
- Listen for the battle cry. Nearby soldiers periodically call out — French phrases for marked targets, friendlier greetings for everyone else.
Crafting And Obtaining
There are no craftable items in this mod — the Gallic Soldier and its spawn egg are the only obtainable content, and the spawn egg is available directly from the creative inventory. No recipes are used or required.
Abilities And Mechanics
- Health & Combat: Gallic Soldiers have solid health and a strong melee attack, capable of pathing over water, through doors, and pushing/being pushed like other mobs.
- Targeting priority: Soldiers prioritize marked players (those with
gallic_target) within a wide radius, then iron golems and villagers if no marked player is nearby.
- Herding: Soldiers tend to spawn and roam in small groups rather than alone.
- Continuous reinforcement: As you explore, new soldiers are periodically deployed near you (in batches) up to a per-player limit of active soldiers nearby at once, while the overall campaign total climbs toward 900 for the current day/night phase.
- Full hostile mob replacement: Nearly every vanilla hostile mob you'd normally encounter is intercepted and swapped for a Gallic Soldier the instant it spawns near you, effectively turning ordinary mob encounters into horde encounters.
Progression And Strategy
- Treat each day/night transition as the start of a new "battle": expect an initial muster announcement and rising soldier numbers as the phase continues.
- If you're not tagged as a target, soldiers behave more defensively — a good way to explore or gather resources with reduced aggression.
- Tagging yourself as
gallic_target turns the mod into a survival gauntlet: soldiers will actively hunt you, making resource management, shelter, and combat gear far more important.
- Because defeated soldiers drop emeralds and iron nuggets, engaging the horde can become a steady (if risky) source of trade and crafting materials.
- Since the horde effectively replaces most hostile spawns, expect combat encounters throughout your world to consistently feature Gallic Soldiers rather than the usual mix of monsters.
