Description
The Five Block Hammer is a powerful iron-tier pickaxe that tunnels through stone and ore in one swift strike. Simply mine any block as you normally would, and the hammer will automatically destroy up to 4 additional blocks in a line extending in the horizontal direction you are facing, for a total of 5 blocks broken at once. Each extra block broken consumes a small amount of durability, so keep an eye on its condition during long mining sessions.

Five Block Hammer
Quickstart
- Open your inventory — the recipe is unlocked automatically when you join a world.
- Craft the Five Block Hammer using iron blocks and sticks:

- Hold the hammer and face the direction you want to tunnel.
- Mine any block normally — the hammer will automatically destroy up to 4 additional blocks in a line ahead of you, breaking 5 blocks total in one swing.
Overview
The Five Block Hammer is an iron-tier pickaxe built for rapid tunneling. In a single mining action it punches through a straight line of up to 5 blocks, dramatically speeding up tunnel and shaft construction. It works on anything a pickaxe can mine — stone, ores, deepslate, and more.
What It Adds
| Item | Type | Durability |
|---|---|---|
| Five Block Hammer | Pickaxe (iron-tier) | 500 |
The hammer appears in the Tools & Utilities creative tab.
How To Use
- Mine as normal — left-click a block just like any other pickaxe.
- The hammer reads the horizontal direction you are facing and destroys up to 4 blocks extending in that line beyond the block you clicked, for a total of 5 blocks per swing.
- Each of the 4 extra blocks costs 1 additional durability. The original block costs durability as normal.
- If an extra block in the line is air or unbreakable (e.g. bedrock), it is skipped — the hammer does not waste durability on those.
- All broken blocks drop their items as usual, so you won't lose any resources.
Abilities And Mechanics
- Line tunneling: Destruction extends in the exact horizontal direction you face. Strafing or looking at an angle does not change the line — only your compass-facing (north, south, east, west) matters.
- Durability management: With 500 durability and up to 5 durability consumed per full swing, you can break roughly 100 full 5-block lines before the tool breaks. Repair it in an anvil with iron ingots, or use Unbreaking/Mending enchantments.
- Pickaxe tag: The hammer counts as a pickaxe, so it benefits from all pickaxe-applicable enchantments (Efficiency, Fortune, Silk Touch, Unbreaking, Mending).
Progression And Strategy
- Early tunnels: Craft the hammer as soon as you have iron — six iron blocks and two sticks. It pays for itself almost immediately in mining speed.
- Branch mining: Face down a branch and swing repeatedly to carve out long corridors in a fraction of the usual time.
- Ore veins: When you spot an ore, face along the vein to clear multiple ore blocks in one swing.
- Keep a spare: With only 500 durability, bring a backup or keep Mending on it to avoid running dry deep underground.
