Fatebound Die

Quickstart

1. Get the die — The Fatebound Die does not have a crafting recipe. Find it as rare loot inside vanilla chests scattered across the world, or give it to yourself with /give @s fatebound-die-yvxcio56:fatebound_die_yvxcio56.
2. Roll it — Hold the die and right-click to roll. A burst of runic sparks, enchantment glints, and a custom sound will play.
3. Read the result — Your roll (1–20) and a fate event (shown as X/200 with colored text) appear in chat. The event takes effect immediately.
4. Wait 30 seconds before rolling again — the cooldown is shown in the item tooltip.

Overview

The Fatebound Die is a one-of-a-kind consumable trinket that bends fate with every roll. Each use costs one durability point from a pool of 1,561 uses (matching diamond-tool durability). When the last use is spent, the die breaks — so roll wisely.

Every roll simultaneously:

• Picks a random number from 1 to 20, each mapped to a themed fate category.
• Selects one of 10 sub-events within that category, displayed as X/200 in tier-colored chat text.
• Triggers a real gameplay effect that can last for a duration or fire instantly.

The item is fireproof — it won't burn in lava or fire, so you won't lose it to the environment.

Abilities And Mechanics

The 20 Fate Categories

Each roll of 1–20 maps to a named fate tier. Good or bad, the outcome is always a surprise.

Each category contains 10 uniquely named sub-events (e.g. Lightning Backlash, Kiln Whisper, Star Crown), drawn from a pool of 200. The specific sub-event is cosmetic flavor — the mechanical effect matches its parent category.

Key Mechanics

Cooldown After each roll a 30-second cooldown begins. The remaining time is shown in the die's tooltip. You cannot roll again until it expires.

Durability Every roll consumes one durability point. The die starts with 1,561 durability and permanently breaks when fully depleted. The current durability is always visible in the tooltip.

Auto-Smelt Aura (Roll 12) While active, all blocks you mine are automatically smelted — ores yield ingots, raw meat drops cooked food, etc. — without needing a furnace.

Fortune's Touch (Roll 17) While active, blocks you break drop double their normal resource yield.

Looting Breeze (Roll 14) While active, each mob kill has a 60% chance to spawn a bonus item drop equal to 50% of the original drop count alongside the normal loot.

Gravity Spike (Roll 2) While active, all fall damage you take is doubled. Watch your step.

Slippery Terrain (Roll 7) Blocks around your feet are temporarily converted to packed ice. They are restored to their original states once the effect ends.

Progression And Strategy

• First priority: Find the die. Search dungeon chests, mineshaft chests, stronghold chests, and similar vanilla loot structures — it appears as a rare drop.
• Spend early rolls wisely. With only 1,561 uses, the die is a long-term resource. Rolling casually will exhaust it faster than you think.
• Roll 20 is worth hunting for. The Ascended Roll (roll 20) triggers a cascade of powerful effects — but with 1-in-20 odds per roll, it requires patience.
• Pair high-yield rolls with intent. Rolls 12 (Auto-Smelt) and 17 (Fortune's Touch) are most valuable during a mining session. Roll 14 (Looting Breeze) shines during mob farm runs or boss fights.
• Beware rolls 1–10 — half the table works against you. If you're low on health or resources, delay rolling until you're in a safe position.
• The die cannot burn — store it safely, even in fire-prone situations, but remember it still breaks from use, not the environment.
• Check the tooltip before rolling to track remaining cooldown and durability so you never waste a timed roll.
