Farmlands
Quickstart
- Head out into the Overworld and explore until you find a Farmlands biome — an open, sunny landscape crossed with irrigated crop rows and dotted with mixed forests and small houses.
- Look for lines of farmland alternating with water channels — these fields are already planted with wheat, carrots, potatoes, and beetroot, and grow noticeably faster than normal.
- Find one of the scattered wooden houses. Step inside — beds, storage, and crafting stations are ready to use, and if you sleep or simply stay nearby, villagers will move in over time.
- Pick up a Farmlands House Deed, Farmlands Teleporter, or Farmlands Compass if you find one, and try using them to relocate, teleport toward, or navigate to Farmlands content.
Overview
Farmlands adds a brand-new biome to the Overworld filled with self-sustaining agricultural life. Instead of empty grassland, this biome is covered in neatly irrigated crop fields, pre-built farmhouses, and a rich mix of tree types from across the vanilla wood palette. It's designed to feel like a cozy, already-established farming settlement that you can stumble upon, move into, and expand.
What It Adds
- Farmlands biome – A new overworld biome that generates as part of natural world terrain, recognizable by its irrigated fields, scattered houses, and mixed forests.
- Irrigated crop fields – Patches of farmland blocks planted with wheat, carrots, potatoes, and beetroot, watered by regularly spaced channels so every crop stays hydrated without any effort from the player.
- Farmhouses – Multi-floor wooden houses generated directly into the world, complete with:
- A door, glass-paned windows on every floor, and a covered stair roof
- Furniture and utility blocks: crafting table, furnace, smoker, bookshelves, barrels, a chest, and a flower pot
- Hanging lanterns for lighting
- Multiple beds, which can house villagers
- Internal stairways connecting floors
- Mixed forests – Naturally generating trees in a wide variety of species (oak, birch, spruce, jungle, acacia, dark oak, cherry, and mangrove), giving the biome varied, lush scenery.
- Villager habitation – Beds inside Farmlands houses can attract wandering villagers, who will move in and treat the bed as their home over time.
- Special items:
- Farmlands House Deed – tied to house-related functionality in the biome.
- Farmlands Teleporter – lets you teleport to a Farmlands-related location.
- Farmlands Compass – helps you navigate toward Farmlands points of interest.
How To Use
- Finding the biome: Simply explore the Overworld — Farmlands generates as a natural biome alongside others, favoring warm, temperate climates.
- Farming: Walk into any field of farmland blocks and harvest the crops directly — wheat, carrots, potatoes, and beetroot all grow there naturally. Crops in this biome mature notably faster than they would elsewhere, so revisiting a field after a short time will usually reward you with more ready-to-harvest produce.
- Housing: Enter any generated farmhouse to use its crafting table, furnace, smoker, storage barrels, and chest. Beds inside can be slept in like any other bed.
- Villagers: If you spend time near a farmhouse with open beds, don't be surprised to see villagers spawn and settle in — they will treat those beds as their home.
- Special Items: Use the Farmlands House Deed, Farmlands Teleporter, and Farmlands Compass by holding and using them; they help you claim, travel to, and locate Farmlands-related structures. Watch item tooltips and interaction prompts in-game for the exact effect of each when used.
Crafting And Obtaining
There are no crafting recipes for Farmlands items — house deeds, teleporters, and compasses are found or otherwise obtained directly rather than crafted. All structures, fields, and trees generate naturally as part of world exploration; there is nothing to build or unlock manually to experience the biome's main content.
Abilities And Mechanics
- Accelerated crop growth: Any crop growing within the Farmlands biome has an increased chance to advance to its next growth stage on its own, making harvesting cycles faster than in vanilla farmland.
- Self-irrigating fields: Farmland generated by this biome is automatically kept hydrated by nearby water channels, so crops never dry out.
- Automatic villager settling: The biome periodically checks for players standing near unoccupied farmhouse beds and will spawn a villager to claim an empty bed if one is available, up to one villager per usable bed in the area.
Progression And Strategy
Because fields and houses already exist when you find them, Farmlands is ideal as an early-game food and shelter shortcut — simply locate the biome, harvest crops, and move into a pre-built house. Over time, returning to a claimed farmhouse rewards you with a growing villager population, useful for trading and future settlement growth. Exploring further into the biome's mixed forests also offers a reliable source of varied wood types without needing to travel between multiple distant biomes.
