Fake Dweller

Quickstart

• In Survival, spend the night in the Overworld on any difficulty except Peaceful. A Fake Dweller may emerge from the ground nearby.
• Try chatting while it is close: it can repeat a nearby player’s words. Strike it to tear away its disguise and make it retaliate.
• To test one immediately with commands, use /summon fake-dweller-bnntenr3:fake_dweller.

Overview

Fake Dweller is a night encounter built around a disguised creature that imitates players before revealing its hostile form. It requires no item or crafting recipe: encounter it naturally or summon it with commands.

What It Adds

• Fake Dweller: A player-like figure that rises through the ground in a puff of smoke, imitates nearby chat, and reveals its true form when a player’s attack hits.

How To Use

Natural spawns are possible in the Overworld at night, away from Peaceful difficulty. The creature can emerge on suitable solid ground about 9–15 blocks from a player. It may take time to appear, and another Fake Dweller nearby can prevent a spawn.

Stay alert when you see a figure nearby. When a player within range sends chat, the Fake Dweller can repeat a line in nearby chat under the name <Fake Dweller>. You can attack it to reveal it—or keep your distance and watch for its imitation.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Emergence: It rises from below the surface over about three seconds, with smoke particles.
• Imitation: It can echo a nearby player’s recent chat, or use one of its own unsettling lines. It sends the imitation to a nearby player as chat.
• Reveal and retaliation: A successful hit from a player tears away its disguise, accompanied by smoke and a roar. It then targets that attacker.
• Combat: It has 28 health (14 hearts) and deals 6 base attack damage per hit. It does not burn in daylight.
• Drop: Killing a revealed Fake Dweller with a player-caused kill drops an Echo Shard.

Progression And Strategy

Let it finish emerging before approaching, and be ready to fight if you choose to strike. Its chat imitation can help identify that one is nearby, but don’t assume a familiar-sounding line came from another player.
