Description
This mod adds the Explode-O-Nut, a Plants-vs-Zombies–style defensive block you can craft, place as a sturdy barricade, and use to blow up nearby hostile mobs. Craft two Explode-O-Nuts at a crafting table using pumpkin seeds, gunpowder, and redstone; the block has high mining time and blast resistance and drops items when broken. When a hostile mob comes close the nut automatically detonates with custom sound, particles, and an action-bar warning so you can lure enemies into traps in survival play. The block appears as a new textured walnut-shell block named Explode-O-Nut and is placed and broken like any other block.
Mod Wiki
Explode-O-Nut
Quickstart
- Gather pumpkin seeds, gunpowder, and redstone.
- Craft Explode-O-Nuts at a crafting table (you get 2 per craft).
- Place one or more blocks in a corridor or doorway where hostile mobs will walk through.
- Step back and watch — when a hostile mob wanders within range, the block detonates automatically.
Overview
Explode-O-Nut brings a Plants vs. Zombies–style defensive block into Minecraft survival. The Explode-O-Nut is a tough, walnut-shell-textured block that sits patiently as a barricade until a hostile mob gets too close — then it explodes, taking the threat with it. It is a one-use trap that rewards careful placement and mob-herding.
What It Adds
| Content | Description |
|---|
| Explode-O-Nut (block/item) | A placeable defensive block that auto-detonates when a hostile mob comes near. Found in the Nature tab of the inventory. |
How To Use
Placing the block
Place the Explode-O-Nut like any normal block. While holding it in your hand, a tip appears on your action bar reminding you to use it as a wall or barricade.
Automatic detonation
Every fraction of a second, each placed Explode-O-Nut checks for hostile mobs within roughly 1.75 blocks of its center. The moment a hostile mob enters that radius the block:
- Removes itself from the world.
- Plays an explosion sound.
- Spawns a large explosion particle effect.
- Creates a real explosion (power ~3.2) that damages and destroys nearby entities and blocks.
- Displays an action-bar message — "Explode-O-Nut detonated! Zombies got cracked." — to any player within 10 blocks.
Breaking the block
You can pick the block back up by breaking it with an axe or by hand. It takes 9 seconds to mine, so it is sturdy enough to outlast casual bumping. Breaking it by hand drops one Explode-O-Nut item. The block is immune to explosions, so other blasts won't prematurely destroy it.
Crafting And Obtaining
One craft yields 2 Explode-O-Nuts.
Abilities And Mechanics
| Property | Value |
|---|
| Detection radius | ~1.75 blocks from block center |
| Explosion power | ~3.2 (comparable to a creeper) |
| Breaks surrounding blocks | Yes |
| Causes fire | No |
| Blast resistant (immune to explosions) | Yes |
| Mining time | 9 seconds |
| Best tool | Axe |
| Drop on break | 1 Explode-O-Nut |
| Single-use | Yes — consumed on detonation |
Hostile mobs that trigger detonation: Zombie, Husk, Drowned, Zombie Villager, Zombie Pigman, Skeleton, Stray, Creeper, Spider, Cave Spider, Witch, Pillager, Vindicator, Evoker, Ravager, Slime, Magma Cube, Phantom, and Enderman.
Progression And Strategy
- Funnel mobs through narrow hallways or doorways and line them with Explode-O-Nuts for chain-reaction kills.
- Mine them back if you misplace one — 9 seconds is long but recoverable, and you get the item back.
- Stack multiples at different heights to catch flying mobs like Phantoms or Slimes of varying sizes.
- Because the explosion does break blocks, avoid placing Explode-O-Nuts near valuable structures. Use them at the perimeter of your base rather than inside it.
- The explosion is fire-free, making it safe to use near wood in controlled trap corridors.
- Since each craft produces 2 at a time and the materials are relatively common, you can maintain a decent stockpile for extended siege defense.
