Cryo Lens

Quickstart

1. Craft a Cryo Lens using an amethyst shard, packed ice, and a copper ingot (see recipe below).
2. Hold the Cryo Lens in either hand and use it (right-click / activate) while aiming at a mob.
3. Keep holding the use button — this zooms your view like a spyglass and begins freezing your target in place.
4. If you're aiming at a lit creeper, its fuse stops counting down for as long as you keep it in your sights.

Overview

The Cryo Lens is a hand-held tool that doubles as a spyglass and a crowd-control device. Peering through it lets you zoom in on distant targets while an icy effect locks nearby creatures in place, giving you time to reposition, line up a shot, or defuse a dangerous situation before it happens.

What It Adds

• Cryo Lens — a single-use-slot item (you can only carry one at a time in a stack) that combines spyglass zoom with a freezing effect on whatever living creature you're looking at.

How To Use

• Equip the Cryo Lens in your hand and use it (the same action as drinking a potion or using a spyglass) — you'll hear a spyglass-like sound as you raise it.
• Keep the button held down; the lens works continuously while active, refreshing its freezing effect every half-second on your target.
• Look directly at a living entity within range (up to 64 blocks) — the lens automatically tracks the closest creature under your crosshair.
• Release the use button (or run out of freeze duration) to stop; the target will act normally again once the lens is no longer trained on it.
• While in use, your view zooms in exactly like looking through a spyglass, making it easier to line up precise shots on distant or frozen targets.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Freeze effect: Any living entity you keep in your sights is periodically frozen in place, preventing it from moving or acting normally while you hold your aim.
• Creeper defusing: If you point the lens at a creeper that has already started its fuse (hissing and about to explode), the lens immediately halts its fuse. As long as you keep looking at it, the creeper stays paused and won't detonate. Look away and its fuse will resume.
• Built-in spyglass zoom: The lens grants the same zoomed-in view as a vanilla spyglass while it's in use, making it useful for scouting as well as combat control.
• Cooldown: After using the lens, it briefly cools down before it can be used again, so you can't spam activations back-to-back.

Progression And Strategy

• Use the Cryo Lens to freeze aggressive mobs at range, buying time to retreat, heal, or reposition before engaging.
• Point it at an already-fusing creeper to stop an explosion in its tracks — useful for defusing ambushes near bases or valuable builds.
• Combine the freeze effect with ranged weapons: freeze a target, then line up a clean shot while it's locked in place using the built-in zoom.
• Remember that the freezing and creeper-pausing effects only last while you're actively aiming through the lens — once you look away or stop using it, mobs resume acting normally.
