Crucifix Greetings

Quickstart

1. Join the world — a multi-part welcome sequence plays automatically, ending with a Crucifix placed in your inventory and suggestions for FOV, shaders, and sensitivity.
2. Find your Crucifix in your hotbar or inventory (also found in the Combat creative tab).
3. Right-click any living mob while holding the Crucifix to banish it — soul particles burst out, an eerie teleport sound plays, and the mob vanishes. You have a ~35% chance to receive a Soul item.
4. Use the Crucifix 5 times before it degrades into a Broken Crucifix.
5. Collect Souls and repair your supply by crafting a new Crucifix:

Overview

Crucifix Greetings is a horror-flavored mod built around a spooky welcome experience and a single powerful item — the Crucifix. It greets you when you first join with a timed message sequence setting the mood, hands you a Crucifix to start with, and then lets you explore a small ecosystem of collectible items through combat, looting, and exploration.

How To Use

The Welcome Greeting

• First-time players receive a multi-part timed message sequence introducing the horror modpack, recommending settings (FOV 97, Somber shaders, higher sensitivity), and confirming that a Crucifix has been placed in your inventory. The sequence ends with "Have Fun".
• Returning players receive a short "Hey There! How Are You?" greeting instead.
• You can toggle greetings on or off at any time with:
  • /greetings true — enable messages
  • /greetings false — disable messages

Using the Crucifix

• Right-click a living mob (other than yourself) to banish it instantly.
• The banishment produces a burst of soul particles and plays a spooky enderman teleport sound.
• Each use consumes 1 durability. The Crucifix holds 5 uses total.
• On the final use, the Crucifix breaks with an item-break sound and transforms into a Broken Crucifix in your hand.

Abilities And Mechanics

Banishing Mobs

Right-clicking any living mob with the Crucifix instantly removes it from the world — it does not die in the traditional sense, it is simply banished. This triggers no death loot and leaves no body.

Soul Drops

• Banishing a mob with the Crucifix gives a ~35% chance to drop a Soul directly into your inventory.
• Killing any mob with a sword, axe, pickaxe, shovel, or hoe has a very small chance (~2%) to also drop a Soul — a passive way to stockpile them through normal play.

Broken Crucifix

Once a Crucifix's 5 uses are spent it becomes a Broken Crucifix. It has no active use on its own but is the key ingredient for crafting a fresh Crucifix, making it worth keeping.

Progression And Strategy

• Early game: Your starting Crucifix is precious — use it strategically on tough or annoying mobs rather than wasting charges on weak enemies.
• Building your Soul supply: Fight mobs with regular tools during your normal play; the small chance for a Soul drop adds up over time without any extra effort.
• Exploration pays off: Raiding dungeons, trial chambers, and ancient cities not only yields gear but has a solid chance to hand you Souls directly from chests.
• Closing the loop: Once you have 2 Souls, a Diamond, an Iron Ingot, and a Broken Crucifix, you can craft a brand-new full-durability Crucifix and start the cycle again.
