Coalburrow Drill

Quickstart

1. Craft the Coalburrow Drill block using the recipe below.
2. Place it on the ground wherever you want to dig a quarry.
3. Right-click the drill with coal or charcoal in hand to feed it fuel.
4. Stand back and let it work — it will grind downward, mining out a wide shaft and dropping loot as it goes.
5. Keep feeding it fuel to keep it drilling deeper.

Overview

The Coalburrow Drill is a heavy-duty automated mining block. Once placed and fueled, it burrows straight down through the terrain beneath it, excavating a broad 5x5 area layer by layer and collecting everything it breaks along the way. It's a "set it and forget it" quarry machine — perfect for carving out mining shafts, harvesting stone, ore, and other blocks in bulk without swinging a single pickaxe yourself.

What It Adds

• Coalburrow Drill — a placeable block that automatically mines a 5x5 quarry straight down, layer by layer, as long as it has fuel.

How To Use

• Placing it: Place the Coalburrow Drill like any other block on solid ground. It will begin drilling downward from wherever it's placed.
• Fueling it: Right-click the drill while holding coal or charcoal to load it with fuel. Each layer of the quarry consumes fuel, so keep an eye on it and refuel as needed to keep it running.
• Watching it work: Every few seconds the drill destroys one block in its current 5x5 layer, dropping items as normal. It cycles through the entire layer before consuming fuel and physically moving itself one block deeper to start the next layer.
• Sound cues: The drill periodically plays a grinding/drilling sound while active, so you can tell it's still working even out of sight.
• Running out of fuel: If the drill runs out of coal or charcoal, it pauses in place. Feed it more fuel to resume digging from where it left off.
• Obstacles: The drill will destroy blocks in its path (including the block directly below itself) as it descends, but it stops at bedrock or blocks it cannot mine through.
• Mining the drill itself: The Coalburrow Drill is an extremely tough block — it requires a diamond (or better) pickaxe to break and collect.

The Coalburrow Drill is crafted from iron blocks, a diamond, and netherite ingots, reflecting its heavy-duty mining purpose.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Mines a full 5x5 area centered on its own position, one block at a time.
• Descends one layer deeper into the ground after fully clearing each 5x5 layer.
• Consumes coal or charcoal as fuel — one unit of fuel per completed layer.
• Drops all mined blocks and materials on the ground just like normal mining, so remember to collect your loot as it piles up.
• Physically relocates itself one block downward each time it finishes a layer, continuing to dig for as long as fuel remains.

Progression And Strategy

Because it requires netherite ingots and a diamond to craft, the Coalburrow Drill is a late-game investment best suited for players who already have strong mining infrastructure and want to automate large-scale excavation. Stockpile plenty of coal or charcoal before starting a long drilling session, since the drill will simply stop and wait once its fuel runs dry. Use it to quickly open up large mining shafts, clear space underground, or harvest resource-rich areas without manual digging.
