Quickstart

1. Craft the Chimera Staff using the recipe below.
2. Hold the staff and right-click any living mob to absorb its body part as a status effect.
3. Each use costs XP levels — check your level bar before absorbing. If you're short, the staff will warn you.
4. Hover over the staff in your inventory to see a quick summary of notable traits and their XP costs.
5. After a successful absorption the staff goes on a 3-second cooldown and loses 1 durability.

Overview

The Chimera Staff is a magical tool that lets you temporarily steal the physical traits of any living mob and apply them to yourself as status effects. Every vanilla mob has a unique assigned trait, and even unknown or modded mobs will always yield a generic "Heart" trait — so no mob is ever wasted.

How To Use

1. Hold the Chimera Staff in either hand.
2. Right-click directly on any living mob to attempt absorption.
3. If you have enough XP levels, they are deducted, the effect is applied to you, and enchant + soul-fire particles appear at both the mob and your position.
4. A chat message confirms what was absorbed and how many levels were spent.
5. Lacking enough XP levels shows an error message without consuming anything.
6. The staff has durability — it loses 1 point per use and can break.

Abilities And Mechanics

All effects are temporary. Durations listed in seconds (20 ticks = 1 s). Amplifier II means the effect is rank II.

Tip: Hover over the staff in your inventory for an in-game quick-reference of standout traits.

Progression And Strategy

• Early game (1 level): Rabbits, chickens, bees, frogs, goats, and many passive mobs all cost just 1 level. Jump Boost II from a frog or rabbit is excellent for navigating terrain before you have other mobility options.
• Mid game (2–3 levels): Wolves (Strength), dolphins (Dolphin's Grace for fast swimming), blazes (Fire Resistance for Nether exploration), and endermen (Speed II) become affordable. Shulkers and iron golems offer strong Resistance II for tanking hits.
• Late game / boss prep (4–8 levels): The Ender Dragon yields 5 minutes of Slow Falling II for just 8 levels — invaluable for The End. The Warden and Wither each cost 6 levels for powerful buffs. The Elder Guardian grants 4 minutes of Water Breathing for 4 levels — great for ocean monuments.
• Generic fallback: Any modded or unrecognised living mob always grants a 1-level Absorption trait, so the staff is never dead weight in modpacks.
• Cooldown: There is a 3-second cooldown between uses — choose your target mob before engaging.
• Durability: The staff breaks with enough uses. Craft a backup before long expeditions.
• XP farming: A mob grinder or nearby experience source lets you cycle powers freely during extended play sessions.
