Kusarigama (Chainhook Reaper)

Quickstart

1. Open your crafting table — all recipes are unlocked automatically when you join the world.
2. Craft the three components first, then assemble the Chainhook Reaper:

1. Hold the Chainhook Reaper in your main hand.
2. Left-click an enemy within melee range for an immediate scythe slash.
3. Hold right-click to wind up the chain, then release to hurl the spiked ball.

Overview

The Chainhook Reaper is a dual-mode weapon modelled after the real-world kusarigama — a Japanese weapon combining a sickle with a weighted chain. It gives you both a powerful close-range scythe and a ranged tethered spiked ball, letting you threaten enemies at any distance with a single weapon.

How To Use

Melee — Scythe Slash (Left-Click)

Left-clicking attacks like a sword. The Chainhook Reaper is built on Netherite-tier stats (base 8 attack damage after the sword bonus), so its melee hits hard. When a slash lands, a brief translucent blade animation plays, visible to nearby players, sweeping from you toward the struck target.

Ranged — Spiked Ball Throw (Hold + Release Right-Click)

• Hold right-click to begin charging. A segmented chain visually winds above your character while you hold.
• Release right-click to launch the spiked ball along the chain. The chain extends outward as a visible tether; the spiked ball texture appears only at the striking tip.
• Longer charge = greater range and speed. Charging up to roughly one second gives maximum power; the ball travels farther and returns faster.
• The throw deals one hit of damage (8 damage) on contact.
• On hitting any enemy or block, the spiked ball immediately reverses and flies back to you automatically — you do not need to do anything.
• A sound effect plays on release.

Abilities And Mechanics

Disarm

When the spiked ball strikes a living enemy, it rips the item from their main hand and drops it on the ground. This works on any mob or player holding an item, making it effective for stripping weapons from dangerous opponents before closing in for the melee finish.

Chain Rendering

While charging, a looping segmented chain renders above you. Once thrown, the chain links stretch between you and the spiked ball in flight, giving you clear visual feedback on its position and trajectory.

Auto-Return

The spiked ball always returns after a hit or block impact. If the ball has not hit anything, it reverses direction automatically after a short flight time (based on charge level) and flies back to you. It is discarded cleanly once it reaches you.

Progression And Strategy

• Open with the chain throw to disarm dangerous melee enemies, then follow up with left-click slashes before they can re-arm.
• Charge fully (hold for ~1 second) against fast or distant targets for maximum velocity and range. Short charges are still useful at mid-range.
• Use terrain — the ball returns immediately on hitting a wall, so be mindful of obstacles between you and your target in tight caves.
• The weapon has 500 durability; each ranged throw costs 1 durability and each melee hit costs 1 as well. Bring an anvil and enchantments (Unbreaking, Mending) for extended use.
• Because the Chainhook Reaper counts as a sword, sword enchantments such as Sharpness, Looting, and Fire Aspect apply directly to it.
