Quickstart

1. Enter Survival mode and obtain a Boyfriend Spawn Egg from the Creative inventory, or use: /give @s boyfriend-6wlz4i22:boyfriend_spawn_egg
2. Use the spawn egg on the ground to summon Boyfriend. You can also summon him with: /summon boyfriend-6wlz4i22:boyfriend
3. Attack Boyfriend once to provoke him, then survive until he lands a melee attack.
4. When the rhythm duel opens, match the falling arrows with the Left, Down, Up, and Right Arrow keys. You can also click the four arrow buttons on the battle screen.
5. Hit at least 8 of the 12 notes and keep your misses below 6 to win. Boyfriend drops the Totem Of Boyfriend when you win.

Do not press Esc to leave the duel; the battle screen must be completed.

Overview

Boyfriend is a rhythm-battle encounter. He appears as a large animated sprite, wanders around, and can fight with melee attacks. Damaging him provokes him, but defeating him through ordinary combat does not provide a reward.

To earn his totem, you must survive his attack and then beat the rhythm duel that follows.

What It Adds

Boyfriend does not drop experience or normal mob loot. His totem is awarded only for winning his rhythm battle.

How To Use

Finding Or Summoning Boyfriend

Boyfriend can rarely spawn naturally on the ground in village-associated plains, desert, savanna, snowy, and taiga areas. Natural spawning is uncommon, and another Boyfriend within roughly 96 blocks prevents another natural spawn nearby.

For a reliable encounter, use the spawn egg from the Spawn Eggs section of the Creative inventory. You can also use the full item ID in commands:

/give @s boyfriend-6wlz4i22:boyfriend_spawn_egg

To summon the entity directly:

/summon boyfriend-6wlz4i22:boyfriend

Starting The Encounter

Boyfriend does not immediately begin the rhythm duel. In Survival:

1. Damage Boyfriend to provoke him.
2. Keep close enough for him to reach you.
3. Survive his melee attack.
4. The rhythm battle opens when his attack connects.

The battle can only begin for a Survival-mode player. Once Boyfriend has started a battle, that encounter cannot be started again.

Abilities And Mechanics

Rhythm Battle

The duel contains 12 falling notes arranged across four lanes:

• ← — Left Arrow
• ↓ — Down Arrow
• ↑ — Up Arrow
• → — Right Arrow

Press the matching keyboard arrow or click the matching on-screen button as the note reaches the highlighted hit zone.

The battle records:

• Hits — notes matched correctly
• Misses — notes missed, pressed too early, pressed too late, or matched with the wrong direction

A successful result requires:

• At least 8 hits
• Fewer than 6 misses

The world pauses while the battle screen is open, and the screen cannot be dismissed with Esc.

Winning

When you win:

• Boyfriend announces the victory.
• The Totem Of Boyfriend drops at Boyfriend’s location.
• Boyfriend is defeated.
• The battle ends.

Pick up the dropped totem like any other item.

Losing

Missing too many notes or failing to reach 8 hits causes the battle to end in defeat. The player is killed by the failed duel.

A Totem Of Boyfriend held in either hand can activate its death protection instead.

Totem Of Boyfriend

Obtain the item directly with:

/give @s boyfriend-6wlz4i22:totem_of_boyfriend

The totem is consumed when it saves you from fatal damage. It:

• Restores you to 1 health
• Clears your existing status effects
• Grants Regeneration II for 45 seconds
• Grants Absorption II for 5 seconds
• Grants Fire Resistance for 40 seconds
• Summons four temporary Boyfriend guardians around you

The guardians defend you and remain for up to 60 seconds before disappearing. The item works from either your main hand or off-hand.

Crafting And Obtaining

There are no crafting recipes for the Boyfriend Spawn Egg or Totem Of Boyfriend.

• Obtain the Boyfriend Spawn Egg from the Creative Spawn Eggs inventory tab or with /give.
• Win Boyfriend’s rhythm battle to obtain the Totem Of Boyfriend.
• Obtain the totem directly in Creative with /give @s boyfriend-6wlz4i22:totem_of_boyfriend.

Progression And Strategy

• Build an arena with room to move before provoking Boyfriend.
• Bring food and armor so you can withstand his melee attack.
• Strike him once, then prioritize evasion instead of repeatedly attacking.
• Watch the falling notes rather than relying only on the rhythm. The arrows show the exact direction to press.
• Avoid random or early key presses: incorrect and premature inputs count as misses.
• Save the Totem Of Boyfriend for dangerous fights or for a second attempt at the duel.
• If testing in Creative, switch to Survival before provoking Boyfriend; the rhythm battle is a Survival-only encounter.
