Overview
The Blinding Daylamp is a handheld flashlight and combat-capable tool. When active, it projects a level-15 light spot toward the direction you are looking, making it useful for exploring caves, illuminating tunnels, and checking dark areas without placing torches.
What It Adds
- A toggleable handheld light source
- A movable light spot that follows your view
- Mainhand and offhand support
- A crafting recipe using common underground resources
- Melee damage and sword-type enchantability
How To Use
Equip the Daylamp
Hold the Daylamp in either your mainhand or offhand. It must remain equipped for the projected light to stay active.
Toggle the Light
Press the item’s Use button while holding it:
- Use while off: turns the lamp on
- Use while on: turns the lamp off
The action bar confirms the current state.
Aim the Light
Move your view to move the bright spot. The Daylamp checks the space in front of you up to 16 blocks away and updates the spot as you look around.
The light is placed in an open air block near the surface or obstacle you are aiming at. It does not replace solid blocks, so the spot may not appear when there is no suitable open space.
Crafting And Obtaining
Craft the Daylamp at a crafting table with:
- 4 iron ingots
- 1 glowstone
- 1 redstone
- 1 stick
It can also be taken directly from the Creative inventory in the Equipment category.
Abilities And Mechanics
- The projected spot uses the maximum standard light level, 15.
- The spot follows your view and moves as you turn or walk.
- The lamp does not damage players, mobs, or other entities.
- The light disappears when you turn the lamp off.
- Removing the Daylamp from both hands also deactivates it and removes its projected light.
- Only one Daylamp light spot is maintained for each player.
- The Daylamp has a maximum durability of 512 and does 6 melee damage.
- It is single-item only and cannot be stacked.
- Its enchantability is compatible with sword enchantments.
Progression And Strategy
- Carry the Daylamp while exploring caves so you can illuminate areas before committing to a route.
- Use the offhand to keep a weapon or tool in your main hand while maintaining access to the flashlight.
- Aim at the floor, walls, or tunnel entrances to create a clear temporary light spot.
- Turn it off when you no longer need it so the area returns to its normal lighting.
- Because it projects a localized spot rather than permanently lighting a path, place torches or other light sources when you need lasting illumination.
