A blue Creeper stalks the night, hiding a deadly blast.
Mod Wiki
Azure Creeper
Quickstart
- Open your inventory or a creative menu and grab an Azure Creeper Spawn Egg.
- Use the egg on the ground at night, underground, or anywhere monsters can spawn to bring one to life.
- Watch the distance — this creeper only starts hissing and swelling when it can see you within close range.
- Back off before it finishes its fuse, or strike it down first with a sword or bow.
- Try hitting one with a lightning bolt (or catching it in a storm) to turn it into a supercharged variant.
- Right-click/tap it with flint and steel to force it to detonate immediately.
Overview
The Azure Creeper is a hostile mob variant that lurks in dark places just like a normal Creeper, but with its own icy-blue look and a slightly more aggressive fuse. It spawns naturally in monster-eligible areas and explodes when it gets close enough to see a player. It can also be charged by lightning for a much bigger blast, and it drops the same kinds of loot a Creeper would.
What It Adds
- Azure Creeper — a monster-type mob with a blue-tinted appearance and its own charged ("supercharged") form.
- Azure Creeper Spawn Egg — used to summon the mob directly for testing or decoration purposes.
- Natural spawning in dark, monster-eligible biomes, both on the surface and underground.
How To Use
- Spawning: Use the spawn egg on any block to place an Azure Creeper. It also spawns naturally at night or in dark areas (light level 7 or below) in monster-capable biomes, on the surface or underground.
- Triggering an explosion: The creeper watches for nearby players. If a player gets within about 2.5 blocks and stays in its line of sight, it starts swelling and lights its fuse. Moving away (past roughly 6 blocks) or breaking line of sight cancels the fuse.
- Forcing detonation: Interacting with an Azure Creeper while holding flint and steel instantly ignites it, forcing it to explode regardless of distance. This will use durability on the flint and steel.
- Charging it: Striking an Azure Creeper with lightning turns it into a charged variant with a brighter, armored-looking appearance and a much bigger, deadlier explosion.
- Avoiding it: Like regular Creepers, Azure Creepers try to steer clear of ocelots and cats, so keeping one nearby can discourage them from getting close.
- Fighting it: It has 20 health and deals melee damage if it manages to reach you without exploding. It can climb, jump, swim across water paths, and takes damage over time if it ends up in lava.
Crafting And Obtaining
There are no crafting recipes for this mob — it is obtained purely by spawning:
- Naturally spawns in dark, monster-eligible areas of the world.
- Can be summoned instantly using the Azure Creeper Spawn Egg in Creative-enabled worlds.
Abilities And Mechanics
| Mechanic | Details |
|---|
| Explosion (normal) | Triggers when a player is within ~2.5 blocks and visible; moderate blast power, no fire caused |
| Explosion (charged) | Same trigger range, but much larger blast power after being struck by lightning |
| Forced explosion | Interacting with flint and steel ignites it instantly, bypassing distance checks |
| Melee attack | Deals damage if it reaches you before its fuse finishes |
| Avoidance behavior | Actively avoids ocelots and cats |
| Movement | Can climb, jump, and path over water |
| Environmental damage | Takes ongoing damage while standing in lava |
Progression And Strategy
- Treat an Azure Creeper like a stealthier, more explosive version of a normal Creeper — its fuse starts based on line of sight, so breaking sight lines (behind blocks, around corners) is the safest way to disengage.
- Killing one from range with a bow avoids explosion damage entirely.
- If it becomes charged by lightning during a storm, retreat further before engaging, since its blast radius and damage scale up significantly.
- Defeated Azure Creepers drop gunpowder, useful for crafting TNT and fireworks, and can occasionally drop music discs if killed by a skeleton, stray, or bogged nearby.
- Keeping a tamed ocelot or cat close by can help deter Azure Creepers from approaching your base at night.
