Ashfall Ruins

Quickstart

1. Load into a world and run /ashfall — you'll receive a tip pointing you toward the biome.
2. Run /locate biome ashfall-ruins-maaz2msv:ashfall_ruins to find the nearest Ashfall Ruins.
3. Travel there, gear up for combat, and start exploring the ruined towers, charred groves, and broken bridge remnants.
4. Mine the unique blocks you find — use a shovel on Ashen Soil, a pickaxe on Ash-Moss Stone, and an axe on Charred Logs — then bring them home for building and decoration.

Overview

Ashfall Ruins is a dark, atmospheric Overworld biome that generates naturally in your world. The sky is muted, ash particles drift through the air, a cavernous ambience hums in the background, and rain-soaked fog hangs over the landscape. Scattered throughout are the remains of a ruined city: crumbling stone pillars, rubble piles, broken bridge remnants, and scorched groves of charred trees. Hostile mobs spawn freely here, making every visit a mix of exploration, combat, and resource gathering.

What It Adds

The Ashfall Ruins Biome

A rare Overworld biome with a distinct post-apocalyptic feel. Key visual traits include drifting ash particles, muted fog, sky, and water colors, and an eerie ambient soundscape. The surface is covered in Ashen Soil, with Ash-Moss Stone forming subsurface and structural layers.

New Blocks

All five blocks appear in the Natural creative inventory tab.

How To Use

Finding the Biome

The quickest way to locate an Ashfall Ruins is with the built-in helper command:

/ashfall

This prints a hint in chat. Then use:

/locate biome ashfall-ruins-maaz2msv:ashfall_ruins

Follow the coordinates to reach the biome.

Exploring the Ruins

Once inside the biome you'll encounter several procedurally generated structures:

• Ruin Pillars — Hollow Ash-Moss Stone towers of varying height and width, with crumbled tops, broken-out window gaps, and scattered rubble at their bases. Mossy Cobblestone details appear on bridge rails and rubble pieces.
• Bridge Remnants — Short Ash-Moss Stone walkways extend outward from pillars in random directions, sometimes capped with Mossy Cobblestone railings.
• Charred Groves — Small stands of Charred Log trees with sprawling Ashen Leaves canopies and a single branch jutting out near the crown. Trees grow on Ashen Soil or Ash-Moss Stone.
• Ashen Groundcover — Ashen Moss Sprouts scatter across the biome floor, adding texture to the landscape.

Combat

Standard hostile mobs spawn throughout the biome at night and in dark interior spaces within the ruins. Come prepared with armor and weapons before venturing deep into the pillar clusters.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Charred Log behaves like a standard wood log: it is flammable, can be placed along any axis, and counts as a log for fuel and crafting purposes.
• Ashen Leaves are non-opaque and do not block vision or cause suffocation, behaving like other leaf blocks.
• Ashen Moss Sprouts have no collision and break instantly — they are purely decorative ground flora.
• Ashen Soil is a valid surface for animal spawning, mirroring the role that grass or dirt plays in other biomes.
• Ash-Moss Stone requires a tool (pickaxe) to drop as an item; mining it bare-handed will not yield a block.

Progression And Strategy

• Early game: Locate the biome with /locate, scout the edges during daylight, and gather Ashen Moss Sprouts and surface Ashen Soil safely.
• Mid game: Mine Ash-Moss Stone from pillar structures and subsurface deposits. Bring a pickaxe with decent enchantments — the stone is tougher than standard stone (blast resistance 6.0).
• Building: All five blocks are purely aesthetic once harvested. Mix Ash-Moss Stone with Mossy Cobblestone (found as rubble) for a cohesive dark-ruin building palette. Charred Logs pair well with Ashen Leaves for interior decoration or gothic tree sculptures.
• Sustained exploration: The ruins generate densely in some areas. Bring a bed or set a respawn anchor nearby — hostile spawns inside the hollow pillars can be relentless, especially at night.
