Description

Almost Lucky Block is a single-use block that explodes with randomness the moment you activate it. With 140 possible outcomes, no two activations feel quite the same. The block has a glowing yellow question-mark appearance and a subtle enchantment shimmer, and its in-game tooltip sums it up perfectly: "Looks luckier than it acts."
Most outcomes are "almost good" — they start promising and then go sideways in some clever or painful way. A few outcomes genuinely reward you. Many will ruin your day.
The block emits a soft light (light level 5) while placed, making it easy to spot in dark areas.
Pickaxes are the correct tool for mining an unactivated Almost Lucky Block if you change your mind before right-clicking.
Craft the Almost Lucky Block at a crafting table:
You can also find Almost Lucky Blocks generating naturally inside abandoned mineshaft corridors. They are very rare, so stumbling across one is a lucky find in itself — whether activating it turns out to be lucky is another matter entirely.
Every right-click rolls one of 140 possible effects at random. Outcomes pull from a wide range of Minecraft's items, mobs, blocks, and status effects. The general theme is outcomes that look beneficial but backfire in unexpected ways, alongside a smaller number of genuinely good results and some that are simply chaotic or harmful.
A sample of what can happen:
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Status effect tricks | Speed boost that trips you up, Jump Boost that misjudges distances, Invisibility that makes you glow instead |
| Gear bait-and-switch | Diamond helmet becomes a pumpkin, shiny boots downgrade to leather, Netherite scrap downgrades |
| Environmental chaos | Gold block turns to gravel, lightning strikes, TNT gift box, gravity reversal |
| Mob surprises | Friendly wolf betrayal, rainbow sheep explosion, Villager and Silverfish spawns |
| Chest tricks | Fire Resistance backfire, Water Breathing drown, Elytra wings clipped, Totem fakeout |
| XP and loot traps | XP bonanza drain, diamond block mirage, bread basket goes moldy |
One or more outcomes place a Locked Chest in the world. These chests look normal but cannot be opened. Each time you right-click one, it plays a unique sound and displays a taunting message in chat (e.g., "Sorry, you need a key... that doesn't exist." or "The chest remains firmly in its gaslight era."). The dialogue cycles randomly and never repeats back-to-back. The chest persists until you break it with a pickaxe.
Almost Lucky Blocks can generate inside abandoned mineshaft corridors during world generation. They are extremely rare — treat finding one as a bonus encounter during exploration.
